Fight song: Go! You Packers! Go!
The Packers are the last remaining example of the "small town teams" that comprised a majority of the NFL during the 1920s. Their home Green Bay, Wisconsin is by far the smallest media market to be the home of a North American major professional sports league team (though their fanbase includes Milwaukee, the rest of Wisconsin, and beyond).
The Packers have won 12 league championships, more than any other American professional football team. They have also won 3 Super Bowls.
Their arch-rivals the Chicago Bears are second, with nine NFL championships (including one Super Bowl). The historical rivalry with Chicago extends to the Hall of Fame - the Packers have the second most Hall of Famers (21, behind the Bears' 26).
The Packers' fan base is famously dedicated: no matter how the team performs, every Packer game at Lambeau Field has been sold out since 1960. The Packers have one of the longest waiting lists for season tickets in professional sports with about 71,500 people as of early 2006. The current wait time for season tickets is approximately 35 years.
An informal name for Packer fans is "cheeseheads". The term is often used to refer to people from the state of Wisconsin in general (because of its cheese production), but is also used to refer to Green Bay Packer fans in particular. Many Packer fans, embracing this nickname, wear foam triangle hats made to look like cheese.
The 2006 Green Bay Packers season began with the team trying to improve on their 4-12 record in 2005.
So far this season they played:
Chicago Bears, lost 0-26
New Orleans Saints, lost 27-34
at Detroit Lions, won 31-24
at Philadelphia Eagles, lost 9-31
St. Louis Rams, lost 20-23

Yes, they are not playing very well. The front office has made alot of poor personnel decisions in both players and coaches. However, Favre is not too old. Like any QB, if he doesn't get protection from the line and don't have the quality recievers to throw to, he will struggle. Often they get behind, which Favre feels he needs to take greater risks in throw the ball.
Just remember, The Pack, are one of the original teams of the NFL. They are also the only community owned team in the league. The Packers will never, never leave Green Bay. They maybe in the smallest market in the league, but they sell out every home game. To get season tickets, you will have to wait about 35 years. Can any other team say that.

Here's some info:
The Green Bay Packers SUCK big time! They are 1-4 so far, will probably end up 3-13 for the season, Their QB is about 3-4 years PAST retirement age. Their coach is an imbecile, who replaced another imbecile. They have very little talent. If you are a "new fan" then I can't speak very highly of your skills in picking an NFL team for the season.
(If you live in Wisconsen and absolutely MUST back the Packers, then my best advice is, "learn to suffer" for a few years, because you will have to do that anyway.)
I would predict that AFTER they break in a decent new QB and AFTER they use a few first round draft picks wisely and AFTER they actually find a real NFL coach for the team, they should be ready to make a serious run for the playoffs by 2010 at the earliest!)
