just let nature take its course. Hampsters dont need help. Good luck!!!! Have fun with the babies. If you dont want the babies you can sell them to the local pet store after they are weaned.

One thing to do is never to touch the babies! When you left your scent, the mother may kill the babies. In my experience, I left the mother and her babies alone for 2 weeks. Then you will notice that the babies will start to walk around the cage. Just be very careful since those babies can squeeze themselves out of the cage. I sometimes place the cage inside a large plastic container (something like a baby tub) so if the babies escape the cage, they won't be able to escape the plastic container. If the hamsters are inside an aquarium, well you won't have any problem with that.

Good luck!

She eats the babies because she is craving protien. You can give her a bit of cat or dog food( one or two bits of kibble every day or two) or cooked hamburger or chicken. make sure you take the male out because he will get aggresive.

* If you decide to keep them you have to seperate males and females by 5 weeks because they can become pregnant agian at 6 weeks!!! Also your female will be pregnant again within a matter of days if the male is still with her*

G LUCK!!

oh and give her some nesting material: paper or toilet paper that she can shred. Paper towel/ tp rolls are good too. You can also buy "hamster fluff" but its a waste of money.

Maybe try Carefresh bedding. Its alot softer on the babies sensitive skin (AND 99% DUST FREE!!)

I don't know if you want to keep them or not, but if you would like to get rid of some of the new babies, you can put up an add in the newspaper, or the internet. Just keep in mind, that baby animals should stay with their mothers for about 2 months before going to their "new home." This will give the mother time to properly train her offspring. Good luck.

All my life I have had to hear my mom's stories about when she had Hamsters.

The female would eat the babies if they didn't keep an eye on her.

She also attacked and some times ate other Hamsters put with her. The hamsters would attract other rodents, and if they managed to get in with her some how.... she would eat them, too.

I would keep an eye, but not stress her out and make sure she gets enough food and water but not alot of you babbleing or moving things around outside her place,.. or makeing loud banging with anything.

Normally the males of animals (species, breeds,.. all kinds,.. not just hamsters and rodents) may have a preference to eat their own children when trapped with them,.. if one of the parents decides to,.. but females can just the same and more easily when not around or within site of other adults of their species, breed, whatever.

So maybe have them near, next to, or just within their captivity cut off from each other (the Male and the others)... but not out of site and sound.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

We've gone through this 3 times. My son buys the most active hamster he sees and they almost always end up being a pregnant female.

We just give the mom extra Klenex and a small box. (instant oatmeal box) Give mom extra fresh greens (spinach or salad mix)and if you want vitamin drops. Mom's will kill the sick babies, which any animal will do. Most animals know what to do, it's instinct.

They are fun to watch when they start roaming around (about 2 weeks) and mom is busy trying to get them back where she can control them.

ENJOY them!!!

The mother will care for them, naturally... you need to separate the male and female, in order to prevent anymore babies if you dont want them. As for the babies, if you dont want those, you can sell them to a pet store.... =) good luck with the babies!
