It was already passed. US banks and credit card companies cannot send money to foreign gambling firms.

Firms such as PartyPoker and 888 and BetonSports are either closed, or no longer accept American business. Those that do are risking prosecution, although whether their executives can be extradited is questionable (it has to be a crime in both countries).

In view of the fact there are lotteries and off-track betting all over America, many people look on these measures as protectionist.

The legalization of gambling -- and its official promotion beginning in the 1970s -- is a rather cynical move by politicians to tax those least able to afford it, and to promote gambling addiction.

The Ports bill was signed(ironically on friday the 13th) which had a provision that simply outlined that the "Method" by which money is deposited to an online gambling site is monitored(most banks can barely stay in buisness now and probably won't be able to fully comply yet) Any deposits from an american bank account via debit card credit card are not acceptable however online gambling is still perfectly legal IF that kind of gambling is legal in your state. OLINE GAMBLING IS STILL LEGAL it's just the means by which you get the money there that is illegal.

I think this is something the Offline Casinos have been trying to push.

Online Gambleing is odd. Some people go nuts, many people calm down.

Alot of offline casinos have been doing things to suck in alot of money. They will have an event, they will have a special, you will sleep inside them in their hotel rooms, you will pay for the special event/buffet, there is special entertainment, you spend money on these things.. you run out,.. you use credit cards and debit cards to get money to play. Then you do it again because you went through so much to do it before and you need money to return, right. Then you do it again because the money to return is gone.

People have found online gambleing that doesn't involve money or is small ammounts of money,.. I know places I can play games for free or for fractions of pennies per game.

Some people however go nuts and the online places are all too willing... to "help" which is really finding you more ways to get into debt and junk. I guess they keep helping until people owe them or some places thousands of dollars.

My rules have been to never give Credit Card information to game sites and to never spend more then what they start you out with and the Winnings (which shouldn't be a problem since I don't give them my Credit Card so if I go to Zero on the free money or however is in my account, they can't take more and I can't give more).

um NO! Who is our president to say what we can and can't do with our money? This affects millions of people too! I mean do you really think that this is going to help people stop gambling? He L L no...just like with underage drinking, if you're going to do it, you're going to do it. Do we not have online gambling for horseraces, sports-football pools, and Lotteries? It's a means of entertainment-and it's been around in America for centuries, members of our congress have played! Plus poker isn't a game of chance, it's a game of skill where performance is merited. Poker is still going to be played. What does putting the word "internet" infront of poker make it any different? It doesn't! I personally think that it's a stupid law, and the president, if that's what youcall Bush anyway, shouldn't be able to do this!!

And I know the companies make money off of it but hello, what kind of industries don't make money off of others? I've won at least $750, where I've only spent $200 max. My boyfiend $1500, spending $300 max. So if anyone has gambling problems, they should seek help!

The bill has been signed and is now law, but it doesn't prohibit on-line gambling. What it does is prohibit American financial institutions (banks) credit card companies and other 3rd party financial organizations from making payments to off shore gambling houses. It simply makes it impossible to get any money there to gamble with. The kicker is, if you had money on deposit before the law went into effect, then there is still money there for you to gamble with.

All vices can be addictive to some. Those with compulsive, obsessive personalities need to find a way to channel that energy into something positive. Very hard to do when they get hooked on something. But when they do they can do great things, subsequently the reverse is true.

If he is using bill money that is the big sign. You need to take control of the money until you see signs his focus has clearly changed.

Agreeing with the above posters, if you need to ask this question here, clearly you are not ready or even in any condition to set up a online casino. Save yourself a lot of time, money, and failure and don't bother.

If your husband has a gambling problem he needs help. I am against prohibition of any sort because it will only drive it underground and make gangs rich with all the underlying problems.

I agree. It can become addictive for many and there is no way to check age. We need more Internet laws. People are being taken advantage of in their own homes, scammed and ripped off. Crime has gone high tech and our congress is still in precomputer thinking.
