So very powerful! I don't do things I know that are bad or will have bad consequences for others because my conscience will put me through a major guilt trip. I figured the best way to avoid going through that is try not to even start it so I don't. I do what is best for me and everybody. I think things out. It's so annoying but it is what it is.
What bothers me more than my conscience is my friends. They don't understand. They are the act-and- think-later type of ppl.

The very nature of mind (the emotional/intuitional aspect of mind is also called conscience) is just that. There have been time tested , perfected practices to make the mind silent. Only then the something else that is deep within will manifest !
One has to consciously attempt to allow the mind to become silent of its own , to be able to evolve better ! Initially it does require some patience, a no-expectation attitude, and persistence. But the results and rewards are great. Even the mind becomes a better and more effective tool to handle the outside situation with effortless ease !

I have the same type of conscience and i can tell you it is the god's consciousness. I keep worrying about what all goes on this earth and try to find answers to every thing. My wife used to chide me and now my daughter- in- law does the same. But how can you remain unaffected with so much of killing , bombing, maiming and other things happening around you. can you be just satisfied saying "so long I am not affected it is none of my business" I turn to god and say o' lord when will these things come to an end?
Then I remember my guru's anxiety during the first world war and how God explained it to him.
You can also read the same in the "Auto biography of a Yogi by sri Parama Hansa Yogananda"

At least yours is getting some exercises...yes consciences can be powerful and it depends on how well your environment(growing up) got ingrained into you.Conscience can be translated as someone else's influence working on you.
Having a conscience as you describe it maybe because you do nothing to assuage it. Satisfy it (ie yourself) in some context and watch it go. If what you are doing does not seem right to you , then its a sure thing that you (your conscience) is going to do the stubborn mule act.
if ts still being obstinate, ignore it.. shut of that part and breathe

I see your parents did an excellent job of brainwashing you. I don't blame them though. This is what they were brainwashed into doing by their parents. It's an ongoing and seemingly endless cycle. I believe that almost everyone in the world is brainwashed into how they think by the way they were raised and their environment. I too have this extra voice in my head putting a guilt trip on me. It brings me down at times. It's like i'm being watched at all times by this unseen entity. Sometimes I thinks it's a guilt trip put on me via religion. Here's what happened to me about 10 years ago. I lost a pet. I was very angry at God for letting this happen. Silly I know, but, I rebelled against him. I verbally said outloud that God does not exist. I told myself this constantly. It took two weeks but I finally became comfortable with my actions. It was a very freeing experience. The voice was gone. I was much happier. My depression was gone. I can honestly say that was the happiest I've ever been. The most comfortable I've ever been in my own skin. But over time the little voice came back. I haven't been that clear headed since.

Gosh... My, my, my.... I think you better see a doctor and have your brain scanned before you develop some kind of a brain cancer. But a shrink or two will do you good I guess. Just kidding... c",) Anyways, conscience is like good and evil battling against each other for your soul. Like two different channels tuned in two different waves. Whoever wins will get you. But BEWARE, if you hear more than two voices in your head, then you must be in for a really thrilling ride of your life. Let say multiple personalities with multiple set of conscience. WOW, now you really rock dude...!!!

What in the world are you doing that you need to wrestle so with your conscience? Torn between vivsecting orphans and working for world peace???
Seriously, it's a good thing to have a healthy, rowdy conscience - it keeps us from doing things that would keep us awake for the rest of our lives.

I know how to brainwash my conscience - just use irrefutable logic - irrefutable logic is equally available to prove a truth as well as to rubbish an illusion. Our power of logic is so powerful even as it is so flexible that we can even send our deepest beliefs on a long journey.
Just need some practice - this method of using flexible logic to repel the overindulgence of conscience. I believe all of us are masters in this art so essential to retain sanity and some peace of mind is this Topsy-Turvy world of ours!!
