There are different meanings to the word "value". As for monetary value, a work of art is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it - nothing more, nothing less.

To the artist, the process of making art is invaluable. Making art is often the only way to express an emotion that must be expressed - it can be powerful healing medicine that can't be found in any drug or doctor's office. Once the work is complete, it matters little to the artist how much money it's likely to fetch.

As for cultural value - again, the price tag is limitless. Art in any form - visual, music, writing, theatre, architecture, etc - is a permanent record of current culture in any given place. Archaeologists and anthropologists learn more about ancient cultures from their art than from any other remaining artifacts.

A particular piece of art may not speak to you in any volume, but its value to those to whom it brings joy is also beyond limit.

Contrary to what many think, its not just for aesthetics. Art defines who we are and what we are. It tells us about cultures that existed long ago and can be a pictorial record for the progress of man over thousands of years.
During periods when there were no written word, it was the art of the people (what they left behind) that gave us clues to who and what they were, how they lived and survived. Look on the web for 4 sites: The Lascaux Caves, the Chauvet Caves, Venus of WIllendorf, and Stonehenge. You might like to look up Akenaten and Nefertiti, The Arnolfini Marriage by Jan van Eyck, the art native Americans painted by Catlin, etc.
Paintings, sculptures, photography, whatever medium it is, tells a story. People ask,'how can you define beauty in art?' When a person looks at clouds to see if it will rain or not, it is called "direct perception", that is he is noticing the clouds for what the are...carriers of water.. On the other hand, that same person might look up at the clouds in the same spot and think "Gee, how beautiful the clouds look with the sun behind them. All those glorious colors,..That cloud looks like big creamy pink puff ball..." When the person does this, he is this looking at the object as art because he sees the beauty of HOW it is instead of just WHAT it is.
Art serves as universal communication. It has material value (think of van Gogh who could never sell a painting, yet one of his paintings today goes for close to $200 million). Art has intrinsic value depending on who did it or what it's made of. The Mona Lisa is just paint on wood , and a small piece of wood at that, yet it's priceless because Leonardo da Vinci painted it and his style was so unique.
Art has religious value as it has been used to communicate stories, especially Biblical stories (look up art during the Gothic, Byzantine, and Renaissance period.
Art has nationalistic value. Think of the Statue of Liberty or Vietnam War Memorial. Throughout history, the high points in a culture are those in which art was valued and encouraged. I hope this asnwers helps you with your question.

Invaluable. The style of art varies. What is valuable to one is not valueable others. Regardless of who you are, though, there is some style or type of art that speaks to you. Art is drawing, painting, playing an instrument, writting, speaking, dancing, fighting, and even killing (the Art of War), plus many more.

the value of art is what you value yourself. Because art is self expression. So whatever you make of yourself, ie self confidence, criticism, praise, hatred... it'll show in your art. Because your art is you.
