I loved the book Gone With The Wind. I think it is a very well-written, powerful novel. Strong characters that are truly unforgettable. I think its cliffhanger ending is the best it could have. That way you can imagine and reimagine for days, weeks, years, etc. what you want to happen. It lives in your mind and imagination then. And the sequel was awful, a waste of paper really. But at least it was better than the movie version of the sequel!

well, the sequel did suck. it sucked s**t. anyone who read the first one hated the second one and at least we know margaret mitchel wouldn't have done that. she refused to do a sequel. i think scarlett would get rhett back but she would not be making all of those mistakes in doing it that she did in the sequel. she would have gone home to terra to think about what to do next, and in the end she would have followed mammy's advice. she usually did when her back was up to a wall. then she'd probably try to spend some time with her kids since she now would realize how difficult beau is going to have it without melanie. eventually rhett would come back to her. for everyone who thinks he's gone now, what, was that the worst thing she did to him? maybe it was. she let Melanie die after all. super scarlett didn't make it all right and she usually did. so...rhett didn't leave because of scarlet. he is mourning melanie who he had placed upon a pedestal. just like scarlett had done with ashley. but come hell or high water rhett always returned to scarlett and he would have done so again. she would be smart enough to realize that and she would have brought herself home to tara.
scarlett only wanted ashley because she knew she couldnt' have him.

indeed there was a sequel I personally found very unappropriate...hmmm don.t we all fans wish Rhett would come back to her?I think Scarlett would need to regain her powers at Tara and after some time, she could do a notdoing, something very special to convince Rhett that Ashley was totally out of her mind and that she.s not anymore self centered.I totally trust Scarlett with a way to regain Rhett back.

I hate Scarlett with a loathing mere words cannot explain - Rhett deserves much better than that idiot woman.
And the racism of the book left a sour taste in my mouth - not one I would ever read again.

i agree: the sequel was really bad.
to really keep up the scarlett character as she was -strong, independent and clever, i think she wouldn't have crawled after rhet the way she did in that sequel. i think she would have gone ahead with her life and some new love would have appeared that would have erased rhet, the same way rhet erased ashley the first time. and probably it would have happened in the same way: she would have ignored him, still thinking about rhet and only after a long time she would have realized that she loved the new man. but, being wiser this time, she would have done it before it was too late.
that's how i see it.
