This is 5th week of my wife's pregnancy, she is having nominal brown discharge. How long does this continue? Does it effect the pregnancy in anyway? Is this something to be concerned about? She is yet to have her first scan.

She really should go and see her doctor, it might not be anything, but it's better to get checked now.
Good luck and hope everything is ok x

When I got pregnant I had some brown discharge off and on until I was 12 weeks pregnant. The brown is older blood and USUALLY isn't of any concern...unless it runs very red and heavy. Either way, chat with the doctor if you are concerned. An ultrasound at 5 weeks won't show you a whole lot.

It could mean nothing at all but she should see her doctor as soon as possible.

I am not trying to scare you both but when i was having brown discharge i was having a miscarriage and i was also 5 weeks along. It started out brown then light red then red then back to brown again. I had pains in my belly and back. If she starts hurting go to the er. But like i said it could be nothing at all.

Good luck and blessings on your new baby
