Make sure there is enough water in the boiler and it could also be a faulty flow valve. or temperature sender. It is difficult to make a diagnosis without knowing what type of boiler you have . Is it a combi or free standing?

without knowing what type of fuel, it is hard to say. If it is a oil burner the ignitors aren't sparking or the eye that detects the flame can't see the flame. It could also be water in the fuel oil ,a plugged fuel filter or a pump problem. It could also be the control module. If it is a steam boiler call a pro.
