The item that I won online was shipped in a box. It was wrapped poorly, and arrived twisted and broken. Interestingly, the box was perfectly fine. The seller wants me to send it to her, so that she can file insurance claim with post office. The post office didn't do anything to destroy the item. The interior packing was improperly done by the seller. I think this is fraud, and want to protect myself, and get my money back. Please help.

The seller claims to "know someone" at the post office, in order to file a fraudulent claim. She has ordered me to send the item to her, because she claims to have paid twice the winning bid, then claimed to have paid thrice that amount. This is disturbing.. As well, she has claimed to have sent my query to "everyone," has forwarded a response about her opinion of me from someone, and has attempted insults by comparing me to our dear late Princess Diana. How do I protect myself?

It does sound highly suspicious. The box would definitely show damage if it were postal-caused.

Did you purchase it through eBay? If so, contact them. They are the "middle man", and can probably help you in this issue. Likewise, most other online bidding sites have consumer complaint departments, to file damage claims. At eBay, a link is located in your personal page.

Also, if you used PayPal, and they find that the seller damaged it before sending, you should have an easy time getting your money back.
