New Zealand & America weren't colonised until well after the middle ages so you need to rephrase your question.

Well, I'm sure that the Maoris and the Native Americans educated their children in ways appropriate to survive in their environments.

That being said, there were no schools per se, as we understand the term. The young learned more by doing than by the Western educational tradition of reading.

But oratory was a skill that was held in high regard, so obviously they knew about rhetoric, even if it wasn't called that.
