JavaScript is the name of Netscape Communications Corporation's implementation of ECMAScript standard, a scripting programming language based on the concept of prototypes. The language is best known for its use in websites (as Client-side JavaScript), but is also used to enable scripting access to objects embedded in other applications.

Despite the name, JavaScript is only distantly related to the Java programming language, the main similarity being their common debt to the C programming language syntax. Semantically, JavaScript has far more in common with the Self programming language and ActionScript which is also an ECMAScript.

JavaScript is a registered trademark of Sun Microsystems, Inc., used under license for technology invented and implemented by Netscape
JavaScript is a prototype-based scripting language with a syntax loosely based on C. Like C, the language has no input or output constructs of its own. Where C relies on standard I/O libraries, a JavaScript engine relies on a host environment into which it is embedded. There are many such host environment applications, of which web technologies are the best-known examples. These are examined first.

One major use of web-based JavaScript is to write functions that are embedded in or included from HTML pages and interact with the Document Object Model (DOM) of the page to perform tasks not possible in HTML alone.

Hope this helps.

You need Java Script enabled to use this version of Search Thingy
Either your browser does not support JavaScript or you have disabled it. There are no security problems in using Java Script ( it has been specifically designed so that it cannot read or write to disk ) If your browser does not support JavaScript, you can upgrade to a FREE newer browser such as Internet Explorer 5 or Netscape ( follow the directions to Download )

Do you have JavaScript disabled?
If so the good news is there's nothing to download! You already have JavaScript in your browser - all you need to do is enable it then reload the page you are viewing.

To enable JavaScript Internet Explorer 5
Click Tools, then click on Internet Options. Click the Security tab. Click the Custom Level button. Scroll to the Scripting section. Under Active scripting allow paste operations via script and Scripting of Java applets by checking the enable button. Click the OK button.

Internet Explorer 4.x
Click View, and then click Internet Options. Click the Security tab. Click the Settings button. Scroll to the Scripting section. Check Scripting of Java applets and Active Scripting. Click the OK button

Netscape 4.x
Select Preferences from the Edit menu Click on Advanced ( actually on Advanced itself - not the sub folders under it ) Make sure the box next to Enable JavaScript is checked

Netscape 3.x
Select Network Preferences from the Options menu and click on the Languages tab. Make sure the box next to Enable JavaScript is checked

AOL Users
Go to the My AOL menu then Preferences Click on the WWW icon Follow the directions for the MSIE browser that your AOL uses
