Know the risks and goto your doctor to pierce them:

Two months would be a young enough age for piercing.

I pierced my 1st daughter's ears when she was barely 2 months old because she looked a little like a boy. I wanted people to know she was a girl. When I saw the horrible pain this inflicted on her and the infection that it caused her, I promised myself never do this to a baby. On my 2nd child I waited until she asked for and by then she was already 14. It also got infected, but I didn't feel as guilty because I had discussed with her the pros and the cons and it was her decision. She now has 4 earings on each lobe and I hate so many holes. Weight all the pros and cons before you do it. Ultimately is your decision, and like you said, is your baby. -Take care!

For the love of god you guuys out here razzing her for asking this question..its not like she wants to get her a nose ring!

I wont even go into what other countrties do to or peirce on thier kids! sheesh

OK to answer your question!

I am 41,, and we have a 12 year old who JUST got her ears peirced... we finally let her and now she says OMG I cant put the things in by myself and they are too much trrouble and so on...

I think if she had them done when she was little and grown up with them it would be different now! :)

I see infants with earrings all the time.. I guess I would say..
Just be really careful where you get them done,..amybe ty to find someplace that does alot of infants... make sure you SEE
them clean the gun before your child and that the earrings are in a sterile pack and the staff wear gloves and clean your childs ears...

If yu dont fdeel good about it .... then go someplace else.

Infants immune systems arent quite going full force yet... so making sure its clean is important.

When you are out maybe ask other oms who you see with bbies who have ears done where they got them done....

I would not worry... get them done anytime,.. avoid getting them done if shes not well has a cold, or is just gotten booster shots or is about to though ... give it a week before and after shots and you might try premedicating with tylenol but call your doctor on that for dose and for his thoughts... some dont like to do that others do

ALso to reduce allergy risdk Id go with White gold studs,,,not 14K gold or even 24K gold or Stainless or titanium
Our daughter has sensitivities to many metals and she has had NO issue with White gold studs.

Finally I dont know how old you are.. but I am 41. When I had my ears done they used BIG studs and basically stapled them through my ears... When we took our daughter they used studs that are the same size as reg earrings... not huge so the holes are much smaller and heal faster as well.

I do not like the ear clean solution they give out and we used alcohol, the disinfectant in the stuff they gave out is just not as good...

Oh and wherever you go... be ready for some shakin heads and a few .." you are a horrible mom" looks if you get it done where others can see you.. LOl Im sure there will be some!

Good Luck

My mum took me to do piercings when I was 12. It's a little hurting unsing the piercing gun.

Unfortunately the piercings on my ears became infected and it was painful. Apparently I can't just take any metal made ear rings!! It's has to be made of gold. Some kind of theories of allergy by some elders.

Anyway it was pretty bad infections but with the medications I recovered soon. I never wore ear rings again. The flesh then healed and the holes disappeared . I never went back for a 2nd piercings. Just hate having them when I looked back on the infections ordeals.

Just to share my experience .

three months is the age in which so much locations will begin piercing a childs ear. I talked too my daughter's general practitioner while a household member requested if she might take my daughter to get her ears pierced. The general practitioner informed me to attend till my daughter used to be three months historic and to take her to Clair's. At Clair's we have been informed that they would not pierce a little one's ear underneath the age of three months.

My dad was horrified when my mom wanted to pierce my ears when I was a baby. He hates needles, so they waited. I was 10 when I got them done, and they still got infected - I am a very slow healer for things of that sort.

Lots of parents pierce their babies ears when they are very, very young, a month or two old. It's really up to you, since it will be you that maintains them, not the baby. They are more likely to get over it if they are smaller because after a few minutes, they will forget it even happened. Just make sure you are really willing to take care of them.

My aunt had my cousin's ears pierced around 6 weeks of age. I would think it is alot easier to take care of when they are little, and by the time they are to the stage of pulling stuff out, they will already be used to it in their ear. You would just have to go with the policies of the piercer as far as minimum age.

Don't listen to the folks telling you that you shouldn't do it. Us as parents are responsible for our decisions made for our children. I have seen much worse done to a child (neglect, malnutrition, emotional and physical abuse) than piercing their ear. You aren't the first person to have their infant's ears pierced, and you certainly won't be the last. Just make sure you take care of the ears, and if there is any sign of infection, take her to the Dr. That simple.

I'm not a "bloke" but a mother of two.

It doesn't make you the "owner" of the childs decisions just because you gave birth to her!!

As a mother, I hated taking my children for their jabs so why do you want to inflict this pain on your daughter by having her ears pierced? She may not want it done & she will be scarred if she chooses to take them out later (they never fully close up).

As a baby, she moves a lot so:

Are you gonna have the time to keep the piercing clean, and maintained?

Are you gonna stop her from pulling at them when thye hurt her?

Are you gonna take her to the docs when the back becomes lodged into the back of her ear - without guilt?

There is nothing worse then seeing babies with their ears pierced!! My daughter is 7 & she still sees the fear in needles. She will be allowed to have them done after the age of ten if she so wishes.

my wife and i asked our pediatrician and we were told anytime after the first set of shots at two months was fine. She would prefer if we waited to six months shots so she would have some more immunity. We decided to do it after the four month shots. She got her shots on a Tuesday and her ears done on Friday.
Doctors in the US don't do ear piercings any more unfortunately so we went to a piercing place in the mall and watched as they cleaned and disinfected everything. she also said if you wait till a year they are used to shots and are stronger and it will be harder for you to hold them done for the second ear.

I pierced my daughters ears at 4 months of age and she is now three and has had no trouble with them at all.
In my oppinion if you do it when they are older they pull at them they get infected and the child won't let you clean them. Don't worry it only hurts them till the pain stops they forget in no time at all especially if you give them a feed straight after.

Gosh, are we a bit controlling? I think that your child should decide when to pierce her ears on her own or take her to do it when she is old enough to actually know what's happening. And once you pierce her ears, weather or not you let the holes grow back in, her ears will never be the same so that's something else to keep in mind.
