It depends on the last name, sometimes on race as well. That sounds horrible, but true. Alot of people of certain descent stay with ethnic names, so it's hard to say by your question what type of name, besides sex, you are looking for. As for my boys, I gave them a first name that I really liked, but a middle name that is traditional and sort of grown up that they can use if they don't like their first names later in life. I won't say their first names, but their middle names are Anthony and Matthew.

I suggest a name that could have a childish nickname but is a good "grown-up" name when not shortened. What we tried to do is think of a name that a possible president could have or a successful ceo. I'm not telling you my daughter's name because we thought it was original and now everyone is using it. : )

Names have meanings. If this is for your own little girl, look for a name that tells who she is to you. My name means "Wisdom." My child's name is half of my name and part of her father's. A good name is better than gold.

Caitlyn
Chloe
Elizabeth (can be shortened to Liz or Beth or a dozen others)
Katherine (Again, can be shortened to Katie, Kathy etc)
Gillian
Patricia (Pat or trisha for short)

I prefer names that can be shortened as it gives the kid some choice in their name as they grow up.
