A recent study cited by the Washington Post said that 600,000 Iraqis have died early due to the U.S. invasion--some from violent death, and more due to the indirect effects. Yet few Americans I've met feel at all responsible, even though the U.S. invaded without having been attacked by Iraq. Why?

I am a liberal, who was against the war from day 1.
I felt sold out by those Dems who voted for WAR. Even if they would have found WMD I believed that they had not exhausted the remedies available through diplomacy. I knew in my ignorance that it would open a hornets nest. I never believed that BUSH, et al, understood the nuances of the culture and religions in Iraq,. I did not vote for BUSH... and YES I am ashamed to be an American for as long as WE THE PEOPLE dont get BUSH and the other criminals out of the WhITEHOUSE. I wish I knew what to do..... I feel stuck in the muck. I think taking back congress will be helpful, but anything short of a revolution, will render me useless and ashamed.

Hmmm, apparently if I told you it was raining gold ingots outside right now you'd run out there to get some, right?...

Funny how someone with access to the internet couldn't be bothered to check if this clown, "Gilbert Burnham" was giving out the facts or just offering his delusional take on what he perceives as reality...

Note how the Washington Post accepts the numbers as fact without looking into it...

Consider the following from Iraq Body Count: A new study has been released by the Lancet medical journal estimating over 650,000 excess deaths in Iraq. The Iraqi mortality estimates published in the Lancet in October 2006 imply, among other things, that:

On average, a thousand Iraqis have been violently killed every single day in the first half of 2006, with less than a tenth of them being noticed by any public surveillance mechanisms;

Some 800,000 or more Iraqis suffered blast wounds and other serious conflict-related injuries in the past two years, but less than a tenth of them received any kind of hospital treatment;

Over 7% of the entire adult male population of Iraq has already been killed in violence, with no less than 10% in the worst affected areas covering most of central Iraq;

Half a million death certificates were received by families which were never officially recorded as having been issued;

The Coalition has killed far more Iraqis in the last year than in earlier years containing the initial massive "Shock and Awe" invasion and the major assaults on Falluja.

Typical lib-tards! Go for what you want to believe even if the facts undercut the nonsense being foisted off as news.

You're generalizing.

Most Americans were against the invasion from the get-go due to no reason for attacking the country to begin with. Many more Americans are learning day by day that the Iraq "war" is a war based on lies and no logical reason to attack.

Many innocent Iraqis (mostly Civilians) and many American soldiers have lost their lives and been mutiliated needlessly in this "war" and it needs to stop. It's a "war" we cannot win.
Best to just pack up and leave. The longer we stay, the more it places Americans and its allies (what few we have left) in danger of terrorist attacks. Bush and his cabinet do not care.

What our government carries out does not reflect the wishes of ALL Americans.
Most of us Americans know better than to judge a whole nation of people as a reflection of what their government portrays.
Haven't you seen the world news ? There have been many protests, as well as people who support the war. We are a mixed bag!
Please don't judge us all the same.

Short answer is; A Lot of Us DO care.

Longer answer is that our troops are led by responsible Generals, who have to deal with Politicians. They are subject to the whims of a group of people who couldn't play a decent game of You Sunk My Battle Ship.

They were neither educated nor prepared for what they faced. They did not understand the culture, they never meant to cause offense to the people. They just.........didn't know.

Their government let them down. They are as caught in the middle as the average resident.

It is their mission to follow orders, it is not their fault too many orders have been issued by idiots.

We wonder also, and have steadfastly been asking our government why? Some of us really do not like the answers.

Many of us.

The shrub has done damage to our Judicial system, and to our Constitution, fixing this will not be quick.

But please, do not blame the American People for the nastiness this NeoCon Administration has brought upon you.

We were being systematically threatened and constantly lied to.

We are paying attention now.

I realize that to you this may sound like "too little too late" but it isn't just about what happens where you are, it is All about the sanctity of the document that governs my Country.

simply put: Americans don't care because it was 600,000 Iraqis that died, not Americans. Most people's opinion is that 600k terrorists have been offed and see it as a good thing.

Well, why don't you go to picket the elections. Yeah, then you can stand behind the designated fenced in protest areas. Sit their and stare at a cop dressed in black with a billie stick in his hand. Then tell me it is the average Americans fault. The truth is Americans have no control over whats happening. They snap your photos and license plates, and track cell phones, and credit card/atm purchases. They know your wealth and all your medical history. They introduce diseases and make you pay for the cure. So while your feeble narrow minded thinking gets us nowhere as a nation except divided, they will go on dictating the world and raping its rescources for their own empire. What are our inlisted sons and daughters who just want a way to pay for college, supposed to do about it. Half them kids over there don't want to be there. Are kidding me man, you got us all painted as killers, when they are killing each other. Its easy for you to sit behind your PC in your cozy little house and point fingers at the Government. What are you gonna do when it comes a knocking ?

First of all they are Iraqis not American, second their blood is on Bush's hands not most of ours. He should be the only person loosing sleep over the 600,000 deaths. They killing each other anyway I really don't give a dam. All we need to worry about is our soldiers.

A large number of Americans were against the war in Iraq in the first place. In fact, the largest anti-war protest in the history of the world was held in the US just before the Iraq war began. As an American I am more ashamed of my country's leaders, both those who instigated this disaster, as well as those who did not have the courage to represent the US citizenry and halt invasion plans.

Average American is busy making some income and to pay off their bills. I can't remember of any American who actually knows what is happening outside the United States and for once realize there is outside world at least. Americans here are preoccupied with their daily lives in this "Earn to Live" capitalism nation, and very much few ever pays attention to the outside world and the current events.
