Well.........I don't think you are strange, and dogs can be very loyal.........on the other had they can get very jelous too.
But what I would be most concerned about is the dogs animal instincts .....and a infant, and the dog being unware that the baby is a human. When a baby cries it would be very easy for the dog to think it another animal, and a Rottie don't give warning they tend to be quite with not even a growl so be very careful when training the dog to be around the baby........they are family oriented dogs that require much attention, they are not by nature a mean aggressive dog but strage noises do aggitate them, they have been know to attack car when car alarms go off!
The other thing is they are large and powerful dogs, he could harm the baby due to his size alone.
The Rottweiler is a dog that is based around the family. It is a family dog and should be treated as a part of the family. It is a dog that is not satisfied to sit there and get his head scratched. They will want to get in your lap and be petted and loved. If you are standing they will jump up and hug you. Like I said they show True emotions and Love.
As your child becomes older and moving about teach him respect for the dog as well, little people like to poke fingers in eyes, ears and mouths.......as well as chew ears and noses.
Your child should never be left alone with the Dog now or as a toddler! Any Dog for that matter.
My daughter when she was seven was chased by a playful Rottie, and not meaning to hurt her.......he knocked her down face first into the ground and one of his nail almost puntured her kidney........she loves dogs even still, she was just small and the dog very large! Be Very careful!!

I'm sorry to tell you, but if it were me in such a situation, I would have to change my way of living. Of coarse,I wouldn't trust a total stranger with my newborn child. I wouldn't trust my most faithful dog with it either. True dogs are a mans best friend, but not necessarily an infant's best friend. Some k-9's are like children. If they are used to getting all the attention then lose some or all to a new member or attraction, they can tend to be jealous, sometimes taking its revenge out on the new attraction. Also if the k-9 is old, it could be set in its ways and crabby with any new arrival. I would rather rely on a close family member first. The baby might be in great danger at the presenttime, but as it grows into the toddler stage,it's in far greater danger.

I would never trust a dog,any dog(from the smallest to the biggest,in any breed)near a baby.Much as people say a dog is mans best friend, how can we tell what they are thinking?Non of us can.Humans have domesticated dogs, and over the many thousands of years it has taken us to get where we are now with dogs,we still cannot fully trust them,as much as we like to think we can-they still have that "hunter killer, pack animal" wolf mentality, and always will have.As for complete strangers,we shouldn't trust them fecker's either-they can end a life just as quick as a dog could.Buy a goldfish:-)

Well, as much as I love my dogs, I would not trust my dogs with my baby. You never know when they might scratch the baby, or just maybe roll over on it and hurt it, not meaning to. You never know how an animal is thinking, and you never know what they will do. BUT, I would never trust my baby with a total stranger either.

i wouldnt leave my baby with a complete stranger, but then again, i wouldnt trust my dog near my baby either. mainly because as much as we think we know our pets they can turn on you at any moment. i always taught my kids never to put their faces near our pet even though she had never bit anyone, i just wanted to play safe.
some pets can become jealous when a new baby is brought into the home, they feel that they are losing the attention. play it safe and dont leave the baby anyway near your dog.

If he is a 100% trained dog I would not worry too much, but then again a dog is JUST an animal so I would still be cautious.
