No. Tv is only a reflection of society. A small percentage is wishful thinking.

Perhaps in the sense of overloading the person and making it something they are used to and hence less horrific (desensitising them).
However, other countries have similar violent media and do NOT have high murder rates at all. Japanese kids play violent video games and other countries watch just as many violent movies. None have the muder rates we do...very, very much lower. This is unexpected as so many people do blame these things for violence.
Michael Moore addrssed this issue in his award winning film, Bowling for Columbine...he traced it to the culture of fear we have in the US via the media so I guess perhaps TV would be a contributer but not in the sense you are thinking but due to the news media and what they focus and do not focus on.
I recommend you watch this film (even if you hate him..try to be openminded while watching it without preconceived notions so you can hear him)
.
Even if it does not contribute to violence (and truthfully, it would be hard to prove it with a one to one correlation as there are many other variables), I still think it is not a good idea...Jesus said whatever is good and true and right and beatiful to focus on that...to fill your mind with that which is good advice.
The average 12 year old has watched so many murders and violence it isn't funny. I don't think this is good for them at all, even if it doesn't lead to violence. We do know kids that are aboused and experience and witness abuse, tend to become abusers...this probably has a greater influence than the things you mention.
All one can really do is shield their kids from it as much as possible by giving up TV (altogether (we did and it is great) or limiting it. My kids are now grwon and both NEVER watch TV though they do watch vidoes and are informed.
A parent should prescreen films or use guides to lesson the violent movies their children see and music they listen to, and do not patronize these violent media with your money. But better still...turn off the news on TV.....better to read it online or in papers or just be uninformed.
For years, I made a choice to be uninformed by not reading papers, or listening to radio or TV news (didn't use internet muvch at the time) and I don't feel I suffered at all...other than when people discussed Bill and Monica at church one day, I had no idea what they were talking about...that was kind of embarassing. Everyone looked at me like I had two heads.
I know this sounds shocking, chising not to listen to it all., but iI was not as depressed with all the bad news and by not keying into what they tell us IS the news as they propagandize us and focus on the most violent, shocking stuff and make it seem it is more prevalent than it actually is.
The media needs to go with the violence and shocking news as it sells better...just chose avoid it..spend the time you save teaching your kid's to do unto others and love people and change the violence one kid at a time.

Absolutely. Watching mindless violence or being a removed part of it, as in playing video games, desensitises the watcher over a period of time.
On a very primal level seeing the same person,be it an animation or an actor ( who reappears in new and different films) resurrected results in a disassociation between cause and effect in violence.
TV series like CSI ,that pander to the human love hate relationship with blood and gore, do not help either.
The general population are not super brained and do not have the God given ability to compartmentalise what they see.
It becomes reflected in society. Take a quick look around and what do you see?
There are plenty y of studies out there that relate to this, but if we are honest we don't need them. We can evaluate for ourselves how out tolerance level for violence had increased.
We need to change the whole format for films, TV and de- fang the wrestling/kickboxing type of programmes.

Some movies and some music 'lyrics'..yes. It depends. Family movies...older classic songs...no. Why not...because they do not contain violence or violent figures.
Cartoons...bad guys battling it out....depends. The old westerns...no. Why? Good fights evil and good wins. Such as war and history...truth..and wars are in the Bibles text.
Anything that would demote Christian belief, anything that mocks God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit...YES. Just like the Madonna concert that is going to be shown on NBC??? Because of the signers of the petition of the American Family Association, the scene of Madonna mocking the crucifixion of Christ is being cut. It took three months to get n.b.c. to agree to do that. Under the pressure of the Good Guys...they caved for that scene. Hey, they had to. AFA made their point...if you can show SMUT, then we demand by the petitions presented that you cut the scene or remove the programming. They cut.
Music??? Are U kidding...with some of that rap stuff. Have you listened to the filth?? Have you seen some of the videos?? Ohhh my goodness...now those are really bad! Yes, it does and all you have to do is look at society and it's perverseness. Lots of hell goers on this planet.

Definitely. And here's something to prove it. Some ten years ago, school teachers discovered here in Argentina, that children were particularly violent on Tuesdays. And they discovered that this was especially so for children who went to school in the morning. Besides, this didn't happen just in ONE school. It happened in all of those they asked about it. When they tried to learn what the problem was, they discovered that the reason was a TV show that was on on Monday evenings. Children were re-enacting that show, which was pretty violent.
What can be done about it? Well, I'm not a sociologist. But it's obvious that this kind of shows should be more deeply discussed (and so should comparable films and songs) so as to 'exorcise' their effects on society. Education is the key, as it is for many other things.

TV is the #1 trend setter of all time. That's why companies pay such huge amounts for 10-15 second commercials. Of all gossip on a daily basis, TV programs rank at the top. TV violence
sells. Remember the show "DALLAS"? The saying "WHO SHOOT JR, WAS A HOUSEHOLD/WORKPLACE NOVELTY.
Not one thing is going to be done about it, TV VIOLENCE SELLS.
If anything the level of violence on TV will increase.

Yes. Media may influence people as much as they inform people. It is easy to influence the mind through broadcasting and publicity.
The only thing to do so the effect may not be as tremendous----EDUCATION. Let us help feed the young minds with ideas about the real intentions of the media. Guide them to right thinking so they dont get confused and influenced easily.
People need to understand a lot of things so they may not easily fall as victims to the ill effects of the media.
