Maybe because people see a black person and say to themselves "That is a black person" or a Chinese person and say "That is a Chinese person"...instead of thinking (for instance) "Wow that is a pretty woman with a nice red sweater...love her shoes"...all they see is race/color..then they stop looking....don't notice the details and differences. If we could stop seeing each other that way, we would have gone a long way.

See, I'm special that way... I have a really hard time distinguishing races, so unless you're really obviously black or Asian, you belong in the same lump group of 'People who look like me'. The reason people think Asians look the same is because they're not Asian, and they have a harder time with people who look different from them. I used to be unable to tell black people apart when I was a kid.

I think sometimes the teen males with the emo hair look the same.
But I also think that if you are too uncomfortable to make eye contact you can't really have any idea of what a persona actually looks like.
I get Japanese and the Chinese, Viets, Koreans all confused. I am not used to the eye structure and unsure which eye goes down, and which goes up.
But I can see if someone is Germanic, or British, Irish etc. But then I am white and more accustomed to staring at white faces.
Interesting question.

Caucasians think that Chinese, Korean and Japanese people look the same, although I can roughly distinguish the difference between these three races, because I'm Japanese. Asians think that Europeans look the same. I find it very hard to distinguish the difference between some European races because I think that Europeans look closely similar. However, as people are saying, there are differences. Nobody is exactly the same. You can put a Japanese and a Chinese person together, but you'd find the way they look are different. People are sometimes ignorant, and some are just not accustomed to different races.

Fact from fiction, truth from diction. WE ALL ARE NOT CLONES. Every race has it own traits. It is just that most people want to be so PC they don;t want to admit it. Or they are not familiar with the other races to tell differences when those differences are slight. When I see women from Kazakhstan, they do not look like women from England. Now women from England, France and Germany have differences too slight for me to tell. I can tell when someone most likely isn't Japanese. Even if I can not tell where in Asia they came from. Some Asian races run slightly darker skin than Chinese and Japanese. Thai, Cambodian, some Filipinas, and Vietnamese for instance. Koreans and Chinese to me(not that they do or don't)have differences too slight to tell apart. To me I notice Chinese have higher cheek bones than Japanese. Everyone has differences. But you have to be familiar with them. If you were not an artist you might look at Azure blue and Indigo blue and not be able to tell the difference. And if you can not get a picture of those blues in your mind other than a generic blue color, BINGO, the point is proved. People look the same because of lack of familiarity.

It is true to other races. I am Latina and I am sure you couldn't tell me apart from other Latinos because you are not accustomed to our features. For example, if I see 10 South Americans, I could probably tell you which country they came from, but if I see 10 Europeans and USA Americans, I could not. This does NOT have to do with discrimination, just custom.

After working with several different asian ethnicities I can now tell the difference by features. They are much harder to distinguish than Caucasians, Black people are tough but there are subtle differences. Latinos are easy to distinguish, they are either european, african or native.

Of course it's not true. -_-
Each person has their own unique and distinct shapes, size and facial features. Not to mention the tone of the skin and hair color.
People who say crap like that have less than the average brains and like to simplify reality for them to understand easier, that's all. I dare anyone who thinks like that to get two people of any race and compare, then tell me how the hell they look exactly the same.
You just can't look exactly the same (with the exception of twins, but that's cheating since you both have identitical genes), there will always be something that is unique from one another. People can look ALIKE, but that doesn't mean they're exactly the same..

it's not true. i used to think the same thing, but at some circumstances people of certain races do look alike. for instance when i worked for a fast food company named fazolis i would get so many customers (that were white) that they all begin to look alike to me.

I guess it's the same reason why some Asians think that all Westerners look the same.
