I went to Lefkas around 10 years ago so I'm not sure how much it has changed since I went there.
We stayed in Nidri and my recollection was of one main street with a lot of shops and tavernas on it. It was possible to have a table on the beach at some of the tavernas which was nice and there was plenty of buzz going on in the town area. If you want a busy night life then Nidri would be OK, but the beaches were nothing special and the centre will now be pretty hideous I would imagine - full of traffic and a horrid concrete jungle.
We also went to Skopelos, the island owned by the Onassis family, which was very interesting. The best bit for me was going across to the island of Meganissi. When we were there it was a quiet sleepy fishing village........perfect to my mind - but, of course, it may have changed a lot in 10 years.
The "lefkas.net" link will give you the tourist sell; "wikipedia" a load of background information, and the "greekisland" link an objective and (I think) unbiased view of the island.

You must go to the beach Porto Katsiki...it is beautiful there..Lefkada is very nice a couple of there beaches arent that great but the others are beautiful. Its a quiet island , alot of families go there. Its not that expensive compared to other greek islands and is the only island excessible by land. I live in Athens and drove there twice. It took me about 6 hours. I loved it so much I went back the following year. If you like to surf Agios Yiannis beach is the place to go. Hope you have fun!

its nice..very nice beaches etc...natural beauty..but the prob is that..lefkas must be non lively at the moment...i would suggest nydri,town of lefkas,porto katsiki,kathisma and ayios nikitas..i wish u 2 have a nice time there.. :-)

It's beautiful, veeery beautiful!
Try the beaches of Agios Nikitas, Kathisma and Port Katsiki.
Also try the mountain villages at sunset and Vassiliki for a good Greek breakfast.
