Negative:
Very Parochial, stubborn, xenophobic, crowded, environmentally retarded, extremely superficial and materialistic, brand obsessed,
biased, amoral in business, culturally insensitive, greedy, obsessed with "Cute" and "Young"! conformist or non-conformist in a very conformist way, dirty ( you ever been to some of their houses you'll know what I'm talking about) myopic-homocidally bad drivers, noisy, two faced, corporate animals.
Positive:
Friendly, kind, honest (on a personal level) , tenacious, patriotic, intelligent, safe, dedicated to professional service, handsome and healthy, modest, courteous and loyal, hygenic, hospitable.
These are some of my impressions of Japan after living there for 16 years. Probably most of these can be applied just as easily to many other countries as well, including my own country of New Zealand. It's always a love hate thing here, as most ex pats who live here any length of time will tell you. Some days you absolutely loathe everyone and everything about the place, but then something wonderful will happen to turn you around again, for a few hours at least! LOL

Until recently, my image of Japan was that everyone there worked very hard for a single company for their entire lives and when they retired they were cared for (and respected) by their kids. Now, I am learning that they are more like us Americans. Forgiving them for their fascination with everything American (like Elvis and jazz) they seem to have developed a heretofore unacceptable "rebellious" aspect. Maybe it was always there but suppressed. I just know that if North Korea steps out of line, Japan is going to squish them in one way or another.
Other than this screed, they have a nice mountain, healthful food, excellent hygiene (just check out their toilets) and not much body hair.

Weirdly repressed in some ways, but just as weirdly free and open in others. I don't get it, but I'd love to check it out.
