For me, being alive means waking up everyday and getting to be here with my friends and family. Never mind how peachy that may sound cause my life has never really been all that great. How-ever, it's great to enjoy life to the last minute of every day. If you like to do things that are a rush, life could be short, but at least you had fun. I really think life is to short to worry all the time about what may happen, so I just go with the flow. What ever happens just happens and you can't change it. Life is good. It sucks sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. But if I spend all my time thinking about what sucks, I would have waisted that time, and it would have all sucked. That's why I just go with the flow. People suck and there is nothing we can do about that, so I don't worry about that either. If people want to waste their lives be stupid why try to stop them. It's their life anyway. I think people could really do better as a society but I can't change the world myself. If everything was easy it wouldn't be exciting when you accomplished something anyway. I guess being alive has its perks, and I wouldn't have it any other way. If you try to get ahead in life and really try hard, chances are you will succeed.

When I wake up in the morning, I thank God I am still alive. My being, as I know it, is still there. My existence in this life will come to an end soon enough, and maybe even today (I hope not). Yet in my heart of hearts I cannot get away from the nagging thought that there is an accounting, and the fear that I won't do well in that accounting. Yet for all that, I want to live my life my way. I remember standing at the grave of a dear friend. For a brief moment I realized that just about all our lives we fill it with temporal stuff. I snapped out of it, of course. Yet that nagging thought of accountability persists and the sure knowledge of my mortality. So when I wake up each morning, I thank God I am still alive. I read an article that some scientist says that right and wrong is hard wired into us. I believe it because I have observed people a long time. Even those who say that morality is relative, scream "that is not fair" when their rights are violated. When they say that, they are appealing to a law they expect everyone in the world to know. It is instinctive. Or as the scientist says, it is hard wired. When a criminal does a despicable crime that makes our skin crawl, instinctively we want justice even though we say there is no right and wrong. A new age guru I know spouts love and kindness and non judgment, yet absolutely hates the men who mock and ridicule him. Out of his own mouth he belies his teaching and appeals to a universal law of right and wrong. So basically we live our lives in rebellion from a standard we want everone else to obey and we sacrifice anything, when push comes to shove, to stay alive. Even refined educated women in times past who wouldn't harm a fly, when facing a siege where food became scarce, actually cooked and ate their own babies.
We can sit in philosophy class and ponder the meaning of lfe, but millons in Africa are pondering if there is food to eat. What does being alive mean to them? Strip us of all the bullsh*t and what does being alive mean to anybody? Staying alive.

People often confuse existing with living. Very different. I think most of us walk the earth just existing, worrying about the trivial, never exploring their potential, how they could impact thier environment in a positive , how they can develop into a more complete person. I think that people that have gone through a life altering experience like surving cancer or a violent assault, or have a seriously ill family member or are surprised the the birth or a handicap child and so on tend to know better the real meaning of living.

Being alive to me means being happy, being considerate to other human beings, thinking of others than just yourself, and doing what you love to do.

A stimulated mind is a happy, alive mind and those that do good deeds tend to feel happier and more alive than those who just drift through life, paying no attention to their fellow humans.

I am truly alive when I am able to receive positive energy from the world around me. I am also alive when I am able to give to others.

Don't know, I haven't experienced reality, to be honest. More often than not, I believe I'm a figment of someone's overactive imagination. Does that count as being alive?
