A failing grade is not the end of the world. A lot depends on why you failed - not studying, inability, conflict with the teacher, problems at home, etc.
If you failed in a required subject, you will have to repeat it so ask the teacher what you can do to improve your grade the next time you take it. If you failed in a subject that is not required, take something different the next time.

well, my best advice, as one who has been in your place before....
is to ask yourself:
did you try your best?
what can you learn from this, so that you are less likely to repeat the problem in the future?
if the grade isn't final, and you still have any chance to do anything, give it your all. often times, if the professor sees a huge change, they will often bump you up to a "D" with some grace.
by the way, it doesn't mean you are stupid, either. you just goofed up & we all do. take this as another one of those life experiences & learn what NOT to do & what to DO!!!
good luck & sorry... been there!!!
(by the way, are you a freshman? many universities offer "freshman forgiveness" and allow you to re-take any classes from your freshman year & replace the grade in your gpa.)

the only one that can help you the most now is yourself. work hard and when you're stuck, take the initiative to seek help. =)
