I recently bought the original DVD release of The Da Vinci Code (2 Disc Extended Version). It came with two discs. The first disc contains the movie itself and the second one is packed with special features. The second disc works fine but whenever I try to play the first disc my Toshiba DVD player gives me the error message "Disc playback unauthorized Consult owners manual for further information". I even returned the DVD and got it replaced but it still gives me the same results!

You don't specify the model, but there are a number of references to this problem on the Internet with the Toshiba SD220E. See the link for an example and solution.

The problem appears to be a Region issue ... the player doesn't recognize whatever region the disk is from. As I'm sure you know DVDs are coded by what part of the world they are from and will only play on either a "region free" player or one from the correct region. For example North America is Region 1.

I don't know if this is your model. If so you have a lead on a solution. If not, you may have a similar issue. In either case, assuming you haven't modified the player, it might be best to consult Toshiba support.
