I told my daughter (16) A junior that if she made strait "A's that I would give her my 2000 SS Camaro. She made the "A"s and when she found out she would be paying 2500.00 a month for insurance she opted for my wife's mini van.
Be very careful about the hidden costs. It sounds like you are responsible enough to save the money so don't blow it all on trying to be cool

First of all, when you look at a vehicle, see what your insurance costs will be. Especially since you're a young driver. As far as specific models, Honda and Toyota are damned good, and as long as the maintenance has been done regularly, they're just about bulletproof. Pros: easy maintenance, dependability and price. Cons: they're very ubiquitous, and if you like being different, you might want a different model.

I'm not sure what features you're specifically looking for, but, since you specifically said car, I'd say a Camry or a Civic would be a good choice. They're also very reasonable on fuel mileage. Another choice, if you're looking to go with something sportier, that I would pick, would be a Monte Carlo. Chevrolets are good, dependable vehicles.

Pros: Sporty looks, comfortable interiors, dependable vehicles. Cons: Gas mileage isn't as good as some of the imports.

With 10K saved, you have quite a few choices. The main thing is, especially if you're looking at used vehicles, is to be very choosy, and look at the details, make sure the body is uniform and the paint matches, pop the hood, and listen and look. If you're not mechanically inclined, get a friend or family member to go with you when you shop.

For a used vehicle, definitely check your classified ads in your local paper. A lot of times you will get a better car and a better deal buying from an individual versus a dealer. If you go to a dealership, don't let them try and bully you into buying RIGHT NOW! Be prepared to walk off, and, don't let them know how well you like a vehicle you're looking at right away.

Good luck in finding the right car, and you'll really have fun with individualizing it!

Don't look to get something too fancy, expensive, or fast. Your first car should be a car that is dependable, reliable, and doesn't require a whole ton of money. Research cars on the internet and see which ones(s) fulfull these needs the best.

ummm... buy a beated car and trick ot out. the insurence will be kinda low and the best part is you can tinker with it all you want. Or you can just submit it to Pimp My Ride on MTV.
