bush has suspended the Habeas corpus.
next he will bring about martial law to protect us from the terrorists.

he would have to have some sort of power over the military. The Supreme Court and Congress could do something legal about it, like take away all funding to the executive branch. But the point is if he did not abide by the law, our military (generals) would not support him in killing Americans. Other countries have coops all the time, but if the military doesn't support the coop, it won't happen. The person claiming to be the leader must have the law behind him, if he doesn't he has to have military power...I don't see that happening here, a person would just look like an idiot, the papers would have it on the front page for a few weeks, all it would do is make Republicans look like the bad guys, it won't happen. If he didn't take his crap out of the White House, they would evict him and donate it to GoodWill.

That is NOT going to happen. He may be stupid, but he's not THAT stupid. We changed presidents twice during Viet Nam. Once during WWII. Once during the Iran Hostage Crisis. Open elections were held during the Great Depression. There is not way Bush could even dream of justifying a claim of emergency martial law. It would destroy the country. And the Republican party might as well pack its bags and move to an island: they would never be trusted again.

We're going to have a tyrant on our hands by then! That means no more Constitutional guarantees for all of us! And with the incompetent Bush still holding on to power, the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution will be snuffed out!! Our everyday lives will be snuffed out in a heartbeat!!!!!

yeah right.....like american citizens are going to allow that! he couldn't get the backing of ANY generals or soldiers, let alone private citizens to impose a dictatorship...he would be arrested, tried for treason, tarred and feathered, and burned at the stake for the heretic that he is.

he has to. the law clearly states that. Plus, bush sucks. America has never been in so much debt since bush's presidency, and a lot of deaths r on his hands.

I would suggest that you seek some professional help if you are seriously worried about this. You know it is not going to be the case and it seems a rather silly waste of time and energy to even suggest that it might. You will feel mighty sheepish in January.

In any event, he'd be outside of the legitimate scope of his power. Unless he ammends the Constitution to allow him to run again. We used to let presidents run as many times as they liked.

well since the law states that no president may serve more than two terms and this is his second term....he will be removed by force or by the people by force if he somehow chooses not to leave.
