I only get this pain right in the evening. I am fine during daytime. Your response regarding this would be appreciated. Is this normal or common during early pregnancy.

I had those all the time with my first pregnancy. For me, it was not a lack of potassium, it was a calcium deficiency. Ask your doctor about it. Too much potassium can be bad for you.

I am told that it is common during pregnancy. I am 5 months pregnant and I have been getting the cramps on and off when I am asleep in the right calf too. I checked with the OB and was told that it does happen and I was prescribed Vitamin E pill and an extra dose of B vitamin. I was also told that further along that I got( past 4 mths), it was more likely to happen as the baby may lay on a nerve and hence the spasms in the calf.

Having said that, I strongly suggest that you mention it to your doctor during your next check up. Meanwhile it may help to flex/exercise your toes everyday. Personally, I found that it does help.

Good luck.

This is very normal during pregnancy and it usually occurs during the night. I would tell your doctor just so he/she could be aware because if anyone is experiencing to many it could cause a blood clot. This is what my doctor told me to do and it seemed to work. He said to try to have a diet with potassium or at least eat a banana every now and then. Also, when you are in bed lay on your back and stretch your legs. Then flex and point your toes about 10 times, stop, and then do it again for another 10. Good Luck...those are not fun at all!

Definitely potassium, bananas are excellent. And yes please make your Dr. aware so they can evaluate the cramps cause.

All these answers are good, the only thing I'll add is to make sure you're getting enough water! This was found to be the source of my leg cramps with my third. When you dehydrate (which happens at a more rapid rate during pregnancy) your muscles will spasm. And it sounds like, if it's only in the evening (not during the night) you may have a hydration issue as well.

If they pushed up on your feet and asked why- it was probably to see if there was pain, meaning you have blood clots in your calves that could travel to you lungs, which can be very dangerous. I don't know WHY your pregnancy is high risk- but if they were specifically asking you about that (Perhaps you're on bedrest a lot? That's a risk factor)- I would call the DR right now. Sit or lie on your bed with your legs straight. Try to bend your toes up towards your face. If it hurts more then- either go to hospital or call DR right away. Otherwiase call DR anyway and tell her about your symptoms. Good Luck!!

Try banana's for a natural and safe replacement of potassium. you cant have too many banana's, yet after a few days of only a banana late in the day, you should notice the muscles being normal. the baby growing is starting to be sent essential minerals, and it costs you if you dont replace it.

if you are only four weeks pregnant and already gettin leg cramps then it isn't your back. it means you need to be getting more potassium, you can get capsules of potassium at health food stores and the vitamin section of your local grocery store. you need to buy it! the leg cramps will only get worse if you don't get rid of 'em now.
