If you noticed them in the Mythology and Folklore section, you might have also noticed how many fewer insults and unwarranted religious attacks you find when you post questions here. :)

Good question. I agree with you on both points.
Both are equally valid religions. I have seen the rare Wicca related question in the religion section though.
I think part of it is that it is considered mythology and fantasy to alot of people. On the other hand, Wiccans utilize the Gods and Goddesses of mythology in their rituals.
Another part of it may be that Bush declared that it is not a real religion. So they want to avoid his cronies and the insults they hurl.

I am Wiccan and have posted in both places, just randomly. I find it more harmonious here than the religion category. Isn't that ironic! I do consider Wicca as my religion though an am a serious practitioner since the 80's. I don't need, however to pound it into other people's heads the way Christians and Muslims seem to like to do. I respect all Paths as long as they are not violent or pushy. ...I don't think the essence of any religion is violence but for Christians being pushy is a part of it it seems as so many are told to preach to others.
As for my Path, quite the opposite is true. I truly resent outsiders coming in and calling themselves Pagan when they've just come to play dress up and impress their friends, or rebel against strict parents or are still the church of another religion. All of that is disrespectful to us. Wicca is a religion in and of itself...there is no such thing as a Christian Wiccan...that is just someone afraid to let go of their past.

I think possibly a lot of the questions aren't really being asked by believers and so they don't know where else to categorize them.
Also, in wicca especially, a lot of it is based more on folklore and mythology than religion (wicca wasn't really a religion in the usual sense before the 19th century) and so it's a sensible place to ask those kinds of questions.

Perhaps because pretty much all religions are based upon myth. Consider that the Bible is actually a set of metaphors.. a guide.. all religious rituals are actually the recreation or reliving of a myth.
Religions are sort of like software, you tend to go with the one that works for you.. and try not to add to many things that conflict with it...

More of the second one unfortunately. They do not want to hear any point different than their own views.Even though Paganism/Wicca and Buddhism are older religions than theirs. Also many of their rites and rituals were taken from them to try and get them to convert. on their own . Maybe they don't want to admit that they also killed innocents in the name of their religion.
They do not want to act like our religion is just as real as theirs.Hypocrisy.
If not for our religious beliefs they would not have a bible.

My view is thus: mythology and folklore should be split up. Mythology should go under the religion section, because the two are the same (not saying either are false). Wiccans belong in the folklore category because they don't what they believe.

Most likely because of the 2 page responses from psyco christians telling the alternative religion posters how they are going to hell and so on.

Because Christians will immediately slam any Pagan (non-christian religion) with replies like "Find god", and "Pray to jesus", and "I'll pray for you" like children if you post it under the religion topic.

Personally, I'd like to see all religious questions categorised as 'folklore'.
Seriously though, you have a very good point.
