One of Teddy Roosevelt's speeches, Citizenship in a Republic (1910), contains possibly his most famous quote ("...the credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood...").

Assuming it was recorded (cylinder phonographs were invented in 1877), where could I find a recording of it?

I thought I heard some of the excerps of this on a public radio show with I think Jean Farracca within the last few months. Why not contact someone from NPR and find out if they would be able to help you.
