My washing machine shakes violently and moves around when it's on the spin cycle. Any idea why? I'm thinking maybe new belts?? But I checked the belts and they seem ok.

It's the balance. Check the adjustments to level it on the bottom of the washer, and don't fill it so full.

ok first off the belts, forget about them they woudn't cause shaking, next forget about the bearing if it was bad you would have water leaking from the agitator. Ok possible problems first lets start with the easy stuff I suggest running a full cycle with the machine empty. If the shaking stops, then your loading it unevenly. However if it does not help the problem then first check the foot pegs under the machine adjust them until the machine is level, if that does not help. Then the problem in internal, first check the mounting brackets for the motor anything loose/broken, if so tighten/replace brackets. If everything is ok then you have to remove the top panel of the machine. The way it works is there is a tub inside a tub. There is the tub that spins on the bearing the " the active tub"(the one the clothes go in obviously) and around that tub is the "stationary tub", between the two are what they call "snubs" these are either rubber wheels, bushings or on cheaper models just a rubber boot that works as a shock absorber if you will, and keeps the movment of the the "active tub" with in its axis. If a wheel is broken, or a bushing/boot is torn or broken then there lies your problem. I hope this helps.

Make certain the machine is level. The legs have screw adjusters to do this with. Some have so called self levelers on the front but they often stick after lots of use and abuse. After checking level make sure the load is evenly distributed in the machine. Most machines have a buzzer sound when it's severely of balance but not all. Off level can also cause your machine to "walk" and pull the supply hoses off the spigots in extreme cases.

Sounds like it's off balance, this can happen if you load it up with too much clothes, or if the clothes have all settled to one side.

Or, the machine could be un-level. I had a washing machine and one of the self leveling legs was messed up, and caused the machine to sit a little lop-sided. And, it shook violently until I leveled it back out.

Make sure you have removed all packaging and bolts. Then check the level of the machine with a spirit level front to back and side to side. If it's not level, level it. Then check that the clothes are in the machine evenly by taking them out, shaking them and putting them back in. If it still shakes and vibrates contact Comet's help desk and see what they have to say. If they come back with nothing, then take the machine back and ask for a replacement. I have had Indesit machines and they are brilliant and well worth the money. KD

When you LOAD the machine -- you need to load it so that the clothes are distributed (weight-wise) evenly across the entire circumference of the machine's wash area.

This shaking like it is having seizures is telling you that you DID Not balance your load. STOP the machine (open the lid), redistribute the clothes so that the weight is even everywhere), and the shaking like seizures should stop.

BE VERY CAREFUL here! I used to work for said company and they will charge you loads of money for an engineer to call to investigate the noise problem if the TRANSIT BOLTS have been left in, and they will also charge you if you return it to the store and the in-house engineer takes a look at it. On a washing machine at the back of the cabinet there will be two or three 13mm bolts that hold the drum in place in transportation. These MUST be completely removed prior to use otherwise you get lots of noise plus irreparable damage could be caused to the internal workings which will not be covered by the makers guarantee. Please check this first as it could save you loadsa dosh. Did Comet deliver and install it for you? Check that they removed the bolts before you contact the store, again it could save loadsa dosh. Good luck.

First, get a level and see how even it sits upon its surface. If it is unlevel, just level it out. You can accomplish this by adjusting the feet under the bottom of the machine {one per corner} until the bubble in the level is centered at all four points of the washer. Remember, righty tighty, lefty loosy. And if this does not solve your problem, try loading the washer as evenly as possible.

Funny, same thing happened to me tonite and it moved forward 3ft. ! That problem often arises when the clothes are all stuck inside together on the same side and it unbalances the machine...
If that doesn't work see if the "legs" ( sorry , I'm french) are all even... Mine had those on the front higher than the back.

We had this problem for several years until we were totally fed up. Our front loading machine sits on a (drawer) pedestal. We were ready to get rid of the pedestal until we discovered the back two feet weren't "locked" in place. Once we locked them down it hasn't moved since.
