FYI, there are two versions of this film and they are not the same cast or storyline.

I Will stick with the main character in both movies George Banks, a man seemingly at that point in his life when he can kick back and relax, until he learns that his daughter has not only met a man, but that he has proposed to her, she has accepted, and now; he must pay for an elaborate wedding for his daughter. I have known many men who have had to face this situation. Weddings are elaborate dog and pony shows in which everyone has to pay for new clothes(tuxedos), special food, and some sort of wedding hall. Anyone who doesn't pay someone to do the wedding for them spends a lot of the wedding trying to make it come off without a hitch. And yes, that does include parking cars if necessary.

My fav character was the father of the bride himself! I like the one with Steve Martin as the father. So his life is normal; very proud of his little girl, who isn't so little anymore. Then she announces that she's getting married and Steve freaks out! I mean totally loses it! He doesn't want to see his little girl get married and I like the way he keeps seeing his 20 something daughter as a little girl. She'll be talking as a grown adult and the camera will go to Steve and then back to her, but it's a little girl of 5 going "yes daddy, I'm going to be married." He also freaks out because of the cost of the wedding. One of my fav scenes is where he's at the store trying to buy hot dogs and hot dog buns. He's like "why do hot dogs come in packages of 8 but the buns come in packages of 6? That would take a lot of hot dogs and buns for it to come out even!" (I have also wondered this myself!) He also freaks out about his in-laws to be because they are very rich. Another priceless scene is where he goes to their house and makes an *** of himself. It's a good movie. Prob would be considered a chick flick, but Steve Martin makes it funny so you could get away with watching it if you were a guy!
