Like an '05 or '06...If so, what are your likes and dislikes of the car? Is it ok for a girl to drive? How does it drive, is it smooth?

i do. yes it drives very smooth. it has good vision. it handles very well for a bigger car. mine has been very dependable. the on;y thing is get the little mirrors to put on your rear view mirrors to eliminate blind spots. i think it is one of the better SUV's for a girl to drive.

The trailblazer of old has a bad rep as a pile of junk and it is a well earned rep. However as time has progressed, GM has refined and finally redesigned this model from the ground up. I would avoid any model made before 06. The 05 is ok however there were issues with the engine and ECM (computer control unit) with this model year. Both have since been resolved. The 06 and 07 models are nice SUV's. The crash ratings are good provided you get the model with the side curtain airbags as well. (3 stars driver, 4 starts passenger for frontal impact. 5 stars all around for side impact. It has a RRR (rollover resistance rating) of 3 stars (1=poor, 5=good) more info on that can be found here: http://www.dot.gov/affairs/nhtsa201.htm

Now as far as for a female to drive. If you are looking for ease of operation, I think this fits the need. My mother is 72 and has the 06 LS with over 24K miles on it already. She drives it from Colorado to Arizona and California to visit her kids and grandkids. She says the suv handles like it is on rails and she can drive it long distances without getting tired because of how nice it rides and how comfortable the seats are. She has yet to have a problem in the mechanical area for hers and the only trim issue she has has was with a piece of molding on the back hatch door popping off when she slammed the door. I've ridden in it and the inside is as quiet as can be both city and highway. No wind noise and no traffic noise. However it does tend to muffle out sirens from emergency vehicles a bit much so you might watch that.

I have a 2006 Trailblazer LS with the 295 horsepower straight 6 engine in it. This is the regular Trailblazer and not the ext. The vehicle handles great on both highway and city driving. It is fantastic on mountain roads and grades, with plenty of power to pass and get up and over the mountains (I live just outside of Lake Tahoe California) The mpg on this is great with mine getting 22 city and 25 highway (something my old 03 camry could only wish for). It has the electronic stabilitrack system on it which makes it extremely sure footed in any condition. I've had two instances on I-80 in which I had to perfrom violent swerving to avoid a crash and it never even gave a hint of wanting to lean or roll over. For a woman this is a nice SUV because of the ease of driving, the vision is really good with limited blind spots. It's score in crash testing is very good and it has a low roll over rating as well. Especially when put side by side with the other midsized SUV's out there. I would suggest finding one at a local rental car agency and renting it for a weekend and taking a drive in it to see how you feel with it. I rented both the ext and regular length versions and went with the regular one because the extended one handles like a beached whale for some reason. Also they come in both 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive models. Depending on where you live and the weather conditions you deal with, chose accordingly as well. Hope that helps

Since gas is going down its not a bad vehicle, although I would prefer a Jeep Grand Cherokee (SRT8 if I could afford it). Theres nothing bad about a trailblazer, especially the newer ones. Toyotas and Fords have the worst roll-resistance. Toyotas also had the most recalls of any company, while Ford has the worst average reliability. GM currently has the most top rated vehicles by cousumers. Automobile Magazine editors called it "bus like", but they are used to driving quarter million dollar sports?super cars so that would make anything seem bad

Owners seem to be happy with the Trailblazer, but here is some information from a consumer info source that might be of interest:

"The TrailBlazer, along with its twin, the GMC Envoy, trails its competitors because of sloppy handling, uncomfortable seats, ill-fitting trim, hard to reach front safety belts, and excessive wind noise.... In our testing the six-cylinder sounded strained and returned only 15 mpg.... Frontal crash-test results are unimpressive. Reliability has been below average."

For good handling, fit, finish, reliability and quality, a better choice would be a Honda CRV, Toyota RAV4 or Toyota 4Runner. The Mercury Mariner, Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute all have a problem with tip-up in rollover tests.

Great vehicle. Handles very well in town and on our cross country trips. Excellent forward and side vision. Plenty of room for stuff in the back too. Nice and comfy ride. I recommend them.

I wouldnt own one of those gas guzzlers if you GAVE it to me! Besides having a bad rep for rolling, do you realize how much youre going to have to pay to keep it going? What if gas goes to $7 a gallon in a year or two? You wont be able to trade that turd for a bike. THINK AHEAD !
