I have met lots of people who fall into this category and I'm sad to observe that nine times out of ten it's because they're truly oblivious to their surroundings...

Some people actually do not know that they are being blatent or tactless, due to being mentally challenged and others actually just don't care. When it comes to being mentally challenged the person may know and may not be able to change how they are. It is really something that cannot be easily decided.

I kinda like the new avatar, Where The Wild Things Are used to be a favorite of mine. Yea, it seems like people really lack the common sense these days. I think it is especially funny when people type out these long articulate answers, and their facts are completely wrong lol. I honestly thought I knew a lot about music when I first came on here, but only to find out how very little I knew. There are so many genres I have found and learned about, and an unmeasurable amount of knowledge about classic rock has been discovered. MA: '39 - Queen. It is about men going to space to find new lands, but they learn so much, and it is all more than just expanding.

most tactless people i know don't consider themselves to be tactless.. in fact, they pride themselves on being forthright and honest, and "telling it like it is". Strangely enough though, these people get the most offended when others return the favour.

i think it's more a case of a terrible sense of humor. can you really be tactless without realizing it? no. you have to understand on some level.

maybe they just like to embarrass their family. (back to the bad sense ofhumor)

I'm sure the wounds give them a clue,, even maybe someone pointing out to them, "hay buddy, you're bleeding", kinda sets off alarm bells.. sometimes injuries like that are superficial, like a papercut, and people don't realize it. That's why I always carry a box of bandaids in my first aid kit, in my car, just to be of help. I enjoy helping others, it's the least I can do. :o)

They know and they don't care. And if they don't know enough to care, then they are not really considered tactless. They are just stupid.

I think oblivious, at least in my case. I don't realize I have said something blunt until afterwards, and then I have to try to make it right.
