2 months ago i had an accident where I broke my right shoulder, fracture my back and i still have a lot of pain in the muscles of my neck.
i was hanging virtually from my neck for almost 3 minutes.
After the accident I noticed that my hearing is really bad and that i have a low but constant ringing and when i am esposed to a loud noise it get worse.
Can this hearing loss and ringing be caused by an accident? I did some research on internet but they dont mention anything about that.
thanks evrybody!!!!

Hearing loss can be caused by a number of events....but it would be unusual for it to be associated with your injury. Pain in the muscles of the neck (sternocleidomastoid) could cause tension of the muscles there and would explain the ringing, but the hearing acuity would not be diminished, unless there was damage to the inner ear and the tympanic membrane (the ear drug which heals rapidly) You need to be checked by an otorhinolargyngologist to determine the cause of the hearing problem. Without a physical exam, it is difficult to make even a casual diagnosis.

Google search: tinnitus neck injury

http://www.hear-it.org/page.dsp?page=3220

"Injuries to the head or neck may be the start of a life with tinnitus. . . ."

Talk to your doctor about a white-noise emitter to mask the tinnitus or a nerve-conduction study to see whether there is actual nerve damage.

A Yahoo search for "tinnitus chiropractic" brings up several web results, the first of which says that chiropractic solutions are worth trying.

It is possible that a nerve was damaged in the accident. You need to ask your doctor though. It could also be due to medication too. During the time you spent in the hospital were you given IV lasix (furosimide) or gentamycin? Both are toxic to the ears if administered quickly.
