I'll start by saying this, the lady who told you about applesauce was putting far too much acid in her baby's tummy! This can cause stomach ulcers and lead to poor digestion for the rest of their lives as well as acid reflux (which will keep a baby up at night for a looong time years down the road).
I have heard of putting rice cereal in formula, but not until at least 3 months old.
There is a special little trick to get an extra hour or two of sleep for your baby though, I've done this with all 3 of mine. What ever time you give the "bed-time" bottle, make it 30 - 60 minutes later. During that "waiting period" try new things with your baby. Some examples: introduce a new bright colored (or black and white patterned) toy, give baby a warm bath in a dimly lit room, put on classical music and "slow dance" bare chest to chest.
Then when the time is up, put 1/2 - 1 ounce more than normal in the bottle and feed the baby in his/her room with the lights dimmed, not off, and keep talking and caressing so he/she stays awake for the whole bottle.
This helps them begin to recognise the difference between day and night "routines", which is what they need to learn in order to begin (at an older age) sleeping through the night.

I wouldn't introduce applesauce at such a young age. A six week old baby is not expected to sleep through the night. Just give the bottle and then baby will sleep 2-4 hours and then do it all again that's all you can do. Try to nap during the day when the baby is napping.

I wouldn't put apple sauce in the formula as the baby's body cannot produce the right enzymes to digest it. I breastfeed my daughter and she has a good feed before she goes to bed. She is now 5 weeks old and sleeps for about 5-6 hours in one stint, wakes up for a feed, and then sleeps for another 3 hours. She has a great big feeding session before bed, like for about 1-2 hours every 20 minutes.

No, absolutely not a good idea, but would consult your doctor first. If you are wanting to do this to help baby sleep through the night, it's not the way to go about it. Some babies don't sleep through the night till they are 4-5 months old or even later. My daughter is 5 months old and I still wouldn't introduce apple sauce to her. Good luck!

Please don't put food into baby's formula. That is dangerous and can cause problems such as choking, and early introduction of solid foods can lead to problems now and later in life-- food allergies, asthma, obesity, diabetes, and GI tract diseases.
Plus, the food=sleep thing is a myth. Sometimes this can actually cause more harm than good, and babies won't sleep as well as they would have if they hadn't had any solid foods.

I used to put cream of rice baby cereal in my son's bottle. But he was older than six weeks old. I wouldn't do it with such a young baby.

Please don't do that! Don't give your baby any food (other than milk, of course) until he or she is at least 6 months. If you start early, you are setting your baby up for all kinds of digestive problems and allergies.
