Do you think we could do Playa del Carmen or Key West cheaper? We would need to buy passports for 2 adults and 2 children if we did Mexico. I just love the all inclusive resorts down there, but we are flying from Michigan and not sure which to do. We want to keep it under $3000.

Well, it depends. The airfare is more expensive to Mexico. You could drive from Michigan to Southern Florida in 24 hours and save a bundle. I do it every year! Key West is 'OK' but the beaches are so-so, not great. Then again, neither is Playa Del Carmen. The beaches at Playa were a disappointment and jellyfish were swarming when I was there. Been to both. Actually, it's less expensive to go to Southwest Florida - like Naples or Sarasota. The beaches are much nicer than the above two places. East coast beaches are subpar. Siesta beach is my favorite - powdery smooth sand. Accomodation choices are better and more affordable. You don't worry about Montezuma's revenge in Florida.
