You obviously have not been to Auto Zone lately! They sell extension cords by destination. Going to Chicago? That cord is 2,120 miles long. Heading to Las Vegas for a bit of gambling. Better play it safe and get a 1,000 mile cord. How about all the way to Nashville, Tennessee? That'll be a 2,370 mile cord. They are retractable and store nice and neatly in the undercarriage of your car. When you reach the end of your cord. Enjoy your stay! When its time to return home, it works just like a vacuum cleaner cord. Push a lever and the cord retracts automatically all the way back to Oregon. It's a snap! I say buy the car. The money you save on gas will come in handy as you buy the cords. ;)

The cord automatically retracts and the sheer force from that action propels you another 5 miles. Then you plug into the next outlet.
It is a bit rough on the cars behind you.

Such a coincidence! I'm thinking about buying a gas-powered car. What happens when we reach the end of the oil supply?

First calculate the length of your journey, then buy that amount of extension cords. Expensive.... yes... Plus you could be headed for a different kind of trip than you had planned.
