Society can think for itself, as long as all its members are educated, open-minded individuals. Realistically, society can decide its course as long as it finds limitations for those who have the most power. If those with the most power remain unimpeded, they will destroy the society.

I study education
education is where we get thirty children at the time in their lives when all the physiological changes are occuring in thier brain that determine how their awareness functions for the rest of their lives

and we place them in a minimum sensoary environment
and impress information that is irrelevent to them onto them
in a way that actually retards the functioning of the brain
and we do this in a systematic way in a program all over the country and indeed the world, for a long period of time
giving as close to the same experience and the same information and the same rudimentary skills as is possible, while the brain develops

i can rant on this for a long time

essentially by definition and practice this as as close as is humanly possible to brainwashing

all the subsequent data processing and perceptions through life
are based on this
and are based on the state and corp controlled media sources
books, television, newspapers

television for example is expensive to make and run ads on
this is because the image of reality that we reference our sense of self and interpretations of experiences from
is constructed of the models we experience
generally from our immediated groups
but this is made uniform and homogenised through the use of television

additionally when you watch television
you enter a quazi-hypnotic state
where you are very suggestible
this is why advertising is so expensive
television is how the spending habits of the population are manipulated

although there are individuals that can think relativly independently
you only have to look at society and the insanities of our culture
to see it is not particularly conscious

Have you ever walked into a Mcdonalds,Burger King, Wendy's etc... because everyone saw it on T.V. and is going. Do you wear certain clothing because it is in style.. Do you listen to certain types of music because it's popular. If you answered yes to any of the questions above than the answer is yes. I guarenteed you if surveyed then the people in the street would answer yes.
We depend so much on the idiot box to tell us what to think, what to eat what to wear. I for one am saddened by the picture that we are painting. Society does our thinking for us. Like it or not we as individuals some time or another give in and "dumb down" so that we can fit in. So sadly the answer is yes.

first of all we will need to define what you call "think for yourself". personnally i think that society is stopping to think. why? because when i look around and see what's goin' on in the world we can not be thinking and let it happen. i was once concerned about this fact but i came to realize that it's part of our human nature. some individuals lead and the others follow. society as a whole doesn't think few individuals do !!!

I believe our society is VERY capable of thinking for itself.

The problem is, the inability to act on this thinking. With all the diversions in our daily lives-your lucky if you can remember what you were thinking an hour ago.

And if you do act on your thinking, you'll probably find someone out there ready to rip you apart for thinking something as stupid as that!

I don't ever want to think as our society thinks. I've always thought for myself. Even in the most desolate, communist, horrible dictatorship, countries, the only thing we have, is to think for ourselves. As far as I know, we yet have not devised a mind reading machine that executes, those whose thoughts, differ from that of the status quo. Good, good question!
God bless us all...

Ofcourse this society can think for itself, it is just so disgusted at what it thinks that it must find someone or something else to blame for all the problems these nasty thoughts bring.

We can think for ourselves...the problem is because of activist groups and everyone sueing because they consider our comments as hateful instead of having our own opinion, we are left with not being able to think for ourselves and speaking openly. Comes from giving government and special interest groups too much say in what goes on, and not demanding that ALL citizens vote on this stuff. I could go on all night, but don't get me started on my soap-box.

No soceity has ever been able to think for itself. Society is composed of a few leaders with multitudes of mindless followers.

A society that does not think for itself will have others thinking for them.
