A person in a neighboring town has a 4 x 8 sign in his yard that says, "You can't be a Catholic and a Democrat.".
I've never met him and I don't know why he gets to decide on this rule but what do you think? Which club should I quit?

I really am a Catholic but I didn't know it was like the mafia. You know, like no one can quit. What happens if I want to quit? Do they whack me?

I guess the guy with the sign is making many assumptions about both Catholics and Democrats. Does he imply that all Dems are pro-choice? Does he imply that all Catholics are greedy, war-mongering idiots? You can be an anti-choice Democrat, as well as a Catholic concerned with ending war and poverty, for instance. In my state, the frontrunner for governor is a Catholic Democrat who's well known for his anti-choice views, but who's going to get elected anyway.
You might as well put a sign in your yard that says, "You can't be both a Republican and an intelligent person."

We have to keep in mind that there's consistently a separation of the church and state. That if a individual is a Catholic does imply the individual should be a Republican. That individual generally is a Democrat or an Independent. It does now not rely at the faith to outline which political celebration that individual will end up related to.

Kennedy was a Catholic and a Democrat, and look what happened to him! You better be really intimidated by the big sign some random person who you don't know has in his yard. It's a good thing you've got Yahoo to help you cope with these major life decisions, like what club to quit. My advice, try nude yoga, then maybe you can eventually learn to shove your whole head up your ***.

Seperation of church and state! With that said I can honestly admit that I am a democrat and don't always agree with certain positions the party takes on issues because of my catholic up bringing. If I were republican I am not certain that it would be any different. I wouldn't quit anything.......I sure do think that the guy with the sign is showing is true ignorance.

The guy who has that sign that you can't be both is obviously heavily on drugs or puts his politics ahead of his faith.
I can see a Catholic voting either way. Personally I am a Catholic and a proud democrat.

You have your own mind and set of values. Letting others guide you may be a trait of you being a long term democrat. The key is to challenge both your politics and religion and make them earn your support. Just as both parties have their flaws so do most religions. Pick what suits you best and let others follow their hearts.

If you feel that Catholicism is a "club" and you can "quit" it. You're probably not really a Catholic. However, judging from some of your looney answers I would say that you are a genuine democrat.

Could it be that he equates the much publicized misconduct of a few priests with House Republicans?
Could it be the fellow who is with the charismatic folks who is a bush booster on this site. Don't know how they are maintaining a tax exempt status. Charles K. I believe his name is, your neighbor?

Would be a very sad choice to quit your god and replace it with a set of political views in my opinion. Also...there is nothing wrong with going back to that mans house and asking him what his motives are for a sign like that. If you do though....be peaceful about it.
