Though I am not quite sure what you are asking, I'll give it a try. In many cultures, namely Asia and the Middle East, gender is one of the key determining factors in social status. In some parts of the middle east, women are required to be escorted by men, and only men may do work in that region. In other countries like China, though women do work, they are raised differently. For example, if a parent has to choose between feeding their son or daughter, they will choose the son, because he passes on the family name. However, the last survey I checked, women outnumbered men by a 52% to 48% margin, though most of the women are located in India and Africa. As far as globalization and consumerism is concerned, I feel that is like asking how the tide in New York affects the growth of rice in Japan. There is, in my opinion, no direct connection between globalization and consumerism and a persons gender. I think it has more to do with the "X" and "Y" chromosomes then the global economy.
