Of course not China is a long way from matching the military of the United States. They can’t even get there Army into the US, at least not in 5 years.

China has only a few submarines and no aircraft carriers. They can’t project force like the United States can. If the Bearing Straight was still a land bridge then they might have a chance, but they would have to fight through Canada, who wouldn’t take kindly to be being invaded.

Most nations don’t have aircraft carriers; only the US, The United Kingdom, France and Russia are the only ones that do. Without air support any land attack is doomed, and without submarine support any navy trying to cross the Pacific Ocean would be shot so full of holes that it would be sunk before getting within a few hundred miles of the US.

As part of the US global defense strategy the US has submarines all around the world. Their technology makes them so quite that they just disappear into the ocean. US submarines have supported several spy missions to the Soviet Union during the Cold War; they would have been fools to not do the same to China. Don’t forget that when the US took over all but a few miles of North Korea the Chinese entered the war and pushed the US back to the original DMZ. The US had a lot of reasons to monitor China. Remember the US spy plane that made a forced landing in China a few years ago? That is just a sample of the US intelligence efforts being conducted there and then there are the spy satellites that are constantly monitoring the former Soviet Union and China.

If China started to mobilize for an invasion then the US would know about it. If they started to mobilize for a naval invasion then Japan would see it, and get nervous. The Japanese depend on the US for protection against other nations. The Chinese and the Japanese have been mortal enemies since the times of the Mongols. Some of the worst things that Japan did in WW2 were to the people of China. Japan is very sensitive to what military actions China may take, and if they do take any the Japanese will quickly inform the US.

Since the Soviet Union and China had a falling out on how to practice communism, and since they still argue over Mongolia war between them has been a real possibility; yet another reason for the US to monitor China’s military.

China can’t march into the US and they can’t conduct a naval invasion. The US is watching them very closely and will prevent any war, by destroying the invaders before they get past the Sea of Japan. Between all the observation capability the US has it will not get surprised in an attack like Pearl Harbor ever again.

China has the nuclear bomb, and their own ICBMs. They could try to launch a nuclear assault, but it is well known that the US will retaliate against any nuclear attack aimed at the US. In the time it takes an ICBM to cross the Pacific Ocean the US leadership would have determined the probable impact areas, and the President would have enough time to authorize an attack. US nuclear submarines armed with nuclear missiles are close enough to China that some of their missiles could impact before the Chinese missiles can. The US relies on a nuclear triad to defend itself. One leg is the nuclear submarine, and most of them are at sea. Each submarine has two crews so it only needs to resupply and have some maintenance done before it can go to sea again. The other leg is the airborne B-52’s that carry cruise missiles and are poised ready to take off. If there were any indications of a possible attack they would be airborne. The final leg is the nuclear missiles which are posed to fire in minutes. Before a missile from China or Russia could hit the US these missiles will be launched.

China is not stupid. They realize this and would not try to attack the US with military troops. Even if they did then the large concentration of troops on the South Korean DMZ and in the Middle East would be like a knife at their backs. Before China could mount an attack on the US they would have to take out the US Troops and their Allies, the South Koreans. They would also be threatened by Japan, which has US Naval ports and forces based there. These forces would have to be destroyed as well, before the attack on the US could begin.

The only two countries that could really invade the US are Mexico and Canada. The US has been allies with Canada since WW2. The Americans may take them lightly, but the Canadians aren’t insulted enough to attack the US for their bad behavior. The Mexican Army has never been that strong. It would have no chance against the US, nor would any nation in Middle or Latin America.

However, China is still a major threat; they are an economic threat. China has the world’s fastest growing economy; their need for oil is growing by leaps and bounds. It is predicted that in 20 years China will consume more resources then there are on the entire planet. This makes them huge consumers and huge customers. A very large percentage of American goods come from China. They are the major producers in all of Southeast Asia, and near the top of those in all of Asia. This represents huge economic power. The Chinese are not afraid of using some Western ideas, they have left Hong Kong a capitalist city and it has become a very rich area for them. They are establishing other free economic zones along the coast where their population is the densest. All of this means that China WILL become a superpower, more powerful than Russia, more powerful than the EEC (European Economic Community) and almost as powerful as the US, but it is going to take time. They are still going from the Middle Ages through the Industrial Ages into the 21st century. The Chinese are making progress, but the majority of their population are still farmers and village dwellers. It will take China time to modernize itself and that is it’s present goal.

If the US makes any economic mistakes, or if they have any economic problems then China could easily surpass the GNP of the US. It will take them a long time before their military can match that of the US, but not so long before it matches the American wealth. Since China is a communist country then they could nationalize the free economic zones at any time, but that would kill them as well. The Chinese can get their hands on massive amounts of money, even dollars. If they wanted to run an economic attack on the US then they could. They could manipulate the US stock market into a crash, but it would not go unnoticed. The rest of the world would retaliate. If the US stock market crashed then the Japanese stock market, the EEC stock market and the world currency market would be seriously hurt, if not destroyed. The free world cannot survive the economic destruction of the US, so it would do a lot to prevent that from happening. If China made such an attack on the US it to would have its economy hurt. The US is one of China’s biggest markets, so attacking the US in this way would be foolish for them.

The only way that China can beat the US is for them to grow larger and more powerful. They are on the road to do this, but that road is a thin one and a long one. China has almost no oil reserves. There is no pipeline from the Middle East into China yet, and building one would be very difficult. So they have to rely on tankers making that long trip around Ceylon (formally Sir Lanka). That makes them vulnerable to attacks by the US Navy. If a China pipeline was built then the US could easily take it out. Flying in from the Middle East the pipeline could be taken out short of the Chinese Border. So the Chinese don’t want to anger the US, not enough to provoke an attack. Most military options are closed or suicidal. Any attack that endangers the US economy also endangers the Chinese economy.

That leaves only one road to a Chinese conquest and that is the slow and careful one, threading the long thin road to success and winning by simply out surviving the competition. The Chinese military will not be marching down the US Interstate system in 5 years, not in 10 years, not even in 50 years. However in 10-20 years they may try buying up large pieces of the US. But, then the Japanese tried to do that to and when the Real Estate Market crashed on them in the 1980s they got pretty badly burned.

The Chinese do not want the headache of caring for a busted society. After they bleed us dry it will be easier to take what they want and leave the rest to fend for themselves like North Korea is doing now. Americans have been far too short sighted and squandered our wealth and productivity. What good is it to make a few things but not be able to feed yourself from items produced within your own border?? Economics are being turned against us and the paper profits shown by corporations will not match the hard currency China is amassing.
