I just don't get it! Why would he do that? I'm pretty sure he knew that the Emporer knew this would happen, so why did he keep working with him until his son was getting the sh** zapped out of him?

Vader figured since he lost Padme , killed almost all the Jedi knew there was no going back. Also since he lost all had his body torn asunder the only one that came and saved him was Palpatine so there was no one else to turn to.Not only that but the power the darkside gave him was hard to turn down. Ans dince he hated Obi wan so much he prob wished to live to just to kill him. The jedi's also were made enemies of the reupublic to so there again no turning back he had to stay with the Emperor.The Emperor had his eye on Anakin for ears grooming him for that moment , the Emperor might not have known Vader would be so disfugured but knew most of what would happedn and poisoned Anakin's mind so.If you read any of the other books of the prequel you will see Anakin had many dark thoughts and had done some bad things using the force to kill others, almost killing Grand Moff Tarkin when Tarkin was Governor as well so Vader pretty much had a home with Palptine,lol.but here is the funny thing in the Empire Strikes Back Novel ,Vader was in his Healing chamber and its only mentioned briefly but it was said he had a happy random thought of early days gone by and he started to heal his body regenerated a little and then he grew agry and it stopped, so there was good in himas luke sensed later on in Jedi.For some interesting read, read the New Jedi Order another Skywalker is about to take a trip down the DARK SIDE

Anakin had already gone too far to the dark side to turn back. It's power had too big a grip on him. He knew deep down it was wrong, but didn't have the strength to fight it. In the end, it was his son's pleas for help that broke the hatred and allowed him to do what was right. A father's love for his child. Awwwww

1. He was filled with anger, and the Emperor manipulated him to serving the dark side until he realized that the Emperor was evil. He saw the emperor as his only friend until that climatic scene in Episode Six.
2. It is called a "plot hole" and it is fiction. While enjoying fiction there is a "suspension of disbelief" that must happen in order to enjoy the story.
