This is happening in Singapore, where a man commited suicide due to very poor and difficult to supoport his family. Donation start to pour in but the authority step in to control the fund for the family, afraid them that they get cheated. But, millions of dollars was cheated by the ex NKF top management staff where action still not taken yet. Is this a democratic country ?

I am not too sure. But I believe if the money is used wisely, then there is no harm on who is handling it. But the problem I see here is that why the authority start to give lending hand after somebody commit suicide.

Like you have mentioned, it is a huge amount of money and by appointing a highly reputable and trustable organisation to set up a trustee account and giving out monthly allowance to the family of the deceased, could minimalise the misuse of the fund by the family and ensure that the money is used in a good way for the maintenance of the family and educations for the two sons. That is what the publics and those who have donated wanted in the first place, proper usage of the money. It is dangerous to leave the money affair to the family as they could be cheated of it. Having the money with an authority, we could have the huge fund accountable for and hold the authority responsible.

NKF is an incident which haunted many Singaporeans but then again, we have not lost the faith and contribute when the needs arise.

Maybe the family of the deceased could choose not to have the fund managed by the authority and go against it but maybe they do find it appropriate and appreciate the help rendered. Who knows?

Whatever it is, the money will be well-spent : )

Wow...didn't know the authorities could step in so fast....issit the IRAS??

Well, in NKF case...then money is gone already...so take a little time, is ok....but for the donations...then money is still coming in...so must act fast...

Cheers..
