Dial up connection speed depends a lot on how many people are on line. On Friday and Saturday night the traffic is heaviest and therefore your connection is likely to be slower.

You can try and connect to a different phone number your provider may have. Usually, the bigger providers have multiple numbers that you can dial in to. Some numbers work better than others, but it's a crap-shoot!

Your best bet if you want consistent speed and faster connections is to pay an extra couple of bucks and get a broadband connection like cable or DSL.

Check with the companies around you to see if you are eligible for either DSL or Cable high speed internet access. Most places do have these services available. However some people in certain places do not and in that case you may be able to get satellite high speed internet if its offered in your area as well as having a clear line of sight from your location. Otherwise you are probably just stuck with dial up which is the slowest internet connection. But different quality modems will give different results as far as speeds are concerned. If you are computer savy you could mess with the init strings for the modem to make it quicker as well.

Contact the company where you get your dial up service. Most offer DSL rates or packages.

If you have cable TV, check with the company for Cable Internet access packages.

Do you really need speed? If so, how much? Do you need to go
200 miles per hour just because your car will only go 120?
There is no such thing as DAL or Cable that can compete with the price of Dialup. No one will deny that these are faster, yet no one wants to admit that they are getting screwed on the overall price! You need to decide for yourself if having a setup like other people have is worth the cost. Think about it. Does your cable or phone company give you great prices on their bills now? Do you really think they are going to be nicer to you with an Internet connection?

Call your cable TV company for cable internet or the phone company for DSL.

Other companies (like possibly the one you have dial-up through) offer broadband service (DSL) but ultimately they have to go through the phone company since they own the lines. Just call the phone company directly. Or you could do cable internet if you already have cable TV. Cable tends to be faster (not always) but slightly more expensive.

change to another company, if possible get DSL it is not as fast as cable but most of the time you wouldn't even notice and the bill at the end of the month doesn't cause you to have a seizure and drool.
