I want to buy a boat with a 9'-6" beam. Do I need a permit to pull it down the hwy ? If so what are the restrictions? Class A Lic? Or just buy a permit? Or hours of transport?

The states that you want to go through determine if you need a permit . PA requires all oversized loads to stop at the border and they set the roads you can take and times. No travel after sundown either(stop hour before sundown and go hour after sunup, permit required ). Deleware does not allow over 8' ,some states are 8'6". if you are not pulling a load commercially you do not need a special license. Do not go over the axel weight allowed.

Length of the beam is not important what is important is the overall weight of the vehicle. If you are pulling >26,001 or you are pulling a vehicle (trailer) Greater than 10,000 you need at least class C CDL if lighter than that you are fine as long as you have the brakes and the power to not impede on regular traffic.

I put a link here for the CDL manual, this is for Missouri but all states are very close to the same. Check your issuing states DMV for thier manual

I NEVER HAD TO HAVE ANY SPECIAL LICENSE JUST TAKE YOUR TIME AND BE SAFE ALL THE LAW IS REALLY INTERESTED IN IS SAFETY AND IF YOUR STILL WORRIED CALL THE DMV BUT DON'T GIVE YOUR NAME OR ADDRESS
