Miss firing can cause that. check your spark plugs and leads.

Just give the car a tuneup if it hasnt had it done in a while.

Replace pcv valve (like 4 bucks) replace spark plugs (plugs are around $4 each for quality ones) and replace the distributor cap, wires and rotor (cap around $30 rotor a couple bucks and wires should be around $10 a wire, depending on how many cylinders you have)

Worst case scenario is that something in your emissions system is malfunctioning, but thats very doubtful. My car ran like **** one day, like I would put it in first gear, floor it and it would take a good 10 seconds to get up to 25mph, not to mention it smelled horrible and was loud running. Did a tuneup and it never ran better.

Could be anything, take it to a shop and have them hook a computer up to the OBD port. That should give the mechanic an idea what the problem might be.

You might also try a tank of premium Unleaded fuel, take the care for a good boot around.

Stephen J is correct, a blinking check engine light means the engine is misfiring, check the plugs and wires first.

Lots of things will make a cylinder miss at idle, but run ok at speed. worn rings or valve stems/guides, cruddy injectors, old plugs. An overpriced, complete tuneup with a compression check should narrow it down of fix it.

because FORDS are either Found on road dead or Fix and repair daily but seriously its maybe an emission problem.. your idle maybe set to low... have someone check it and reset the idle on the engine... or could be the mass air flow system ... it could be a number of things have it checked before it gets worse tho
