whats a good RTS to start with?

im thinking of buying dawn of war or rome: total war. any suggestions for someone whos never played an RTS?

Rome: Total War is a great RTS. I highly recommend it. Just take your time in the tutorial and get acquainted with the battle system. The only thing real time in RTW is the battles, which allows you to focus solely on them without worrying about managing your cities at the same time...

i started with "Age of Empires 2- The Kings" then moved to Age of Empires 2- the Conquerors Expansion" theses are real fun and easy to play and a good place to play people is on gamespy or gamepark.
