How could anyone have done the right thing for the thousands of people who stayed in the hurricanes path. The Mayor of New Orleans had a wonderful plan..his plan was to get on I-10 and head east or west. The governor of the state had no plan whatsoever to get people out of harms way.

So lets blame all the guys in Wash DC who for some odd reason did not get a few million pounds of food and water to the area for what.....3 days. When people live in hurricane prone areas, especially the folks in New Orleans who live in a bowl under sea level there should have been a lot more action by the elected representatives on the scene to take care of those who couldn't take care of themselves.

And the biggest joke of all....after all the misappropriated money, and the Police force left town, the wonderful Mayor was re-elected. I'm sure he'll do better next time.

Has anyone thought that the local, and state government had a duty to evacuate those people? I live in Florida, and we get our share of hurricanes, but we don't whine about federal neglect. We take care of ourselves!

New Orleans should have been evacuated, but the order was never given by the Governor, or the Mayor. The Governor and the Mayor, had a disaster plan but they did not follow it.

Everyone saw the flooded school buses that could have taken people to safety. Mayor Nagin, had those buses in his control. He did not act, and it cost the city severely!

Governor Landreiu, didn't seek federal help until after the storm. She fought against federal help, and then criticized the lack of a federal response.

The national media characterized NO as a war zone, and described conditions there that no decent humanitarian volunteer would dare enter.

I'm a disaster responder. Based on the media reports, I would have refused to go into NO. The media reports turned out to be false, but I did not know that.

Brownie, didn't know it either! He's wasn't prepared for this disaster, and the really responsible parties found him to be easy game.

Dont feed me any of the crock storries. Brown messed up, Bush messed up, state and local messed up. Brown was in charge of FEMA, regardless of what happened at the state level, FEMAs job is to go. That plain and simple. This wasnt just a mess up in Lousiana it was a mess up in the entire Gulf Coast area. Why did it take just as long for MS or TX to get the help they so desperately needed there? Lord forbid anything worse then Katrina happens in this country, we are not prepared for anything.

Not going to take aid to those in need because it may be dangerous to you is not an excuse. If your that selfish you shouldn't be in that field. Sorry its just that simple. Look at Asia and what has happened there; rescue people died because it wasn't safe to go into areas because of nature but it didn't stop them. Yes they also saw some of the same problems we saw after Katrina.

No Brown and everyone involved dropped the ball. They had no idea what to do. I think they just didn't care because of the poverty that existed in those states. Really a crying shame!!

I should think not, they had plenty of opportunity to help the victims of Katrina, but they dropped the ball. It comes down to this people, money. I don't think it is so much as race, but really its how much money you have. They didn't really help those people because in general they where the poor. You telling me in the U.S they could not have gotten a responce team faster then that? Please.
