What do you suggest we call this new holiday? Keeping in mind that it will never come to fruition of course. Or are we even allowed to have any holiday in the first place while everyone else has Christmas or Hanukkah, etc with their families and time off from work?

Why don't we just go back to the Middle Ages when non-Christians had no rights whatsoever? That's not too far off from where alot of Christians want us to go.

Christian holidays were all borrowed/stolen from existing Pagan holidays. They were changed around by the Catholic Church (all Christians were Catholic back then) to fit the new religion which was seeking converts and the only way to do that without riots was to steal someone else's holidays and pass them off as their own.

The Winter Solstice was around long before Christianity and there were several Gods born (of a virgin) on or near Dec 21-25. Mithra and The Sun God for example.

Even the book of Jeremiah tells Jews (and the same applies to Christians who came around later) not to have anything to do with Pagan holidays, namely Yule. But yet Christians lay claim to them as if they were their own original ideas.

Many holidays predate Christianity in some form, and many religions celebrate some type of holiday during the same time. We are all related. Guess I shouldn't be answering this from the title.

I think the way Christmas is celebrated in the US is pretty recent - and probably not what Jesus would have wanted...

i have no issue with anybody that wants to celebrate the holidays! i come from a family of many different beliefs, my mom is atheist, my grandmother is too, my dad is baptist, my little sister is well....the closest describtion i can think of is jewish, im a nondenominational christmas and my brother is methodist! yikes! sometimes its hard to situate the holidays, but now we just do christmas which is fine with everyone. maybe your family could just set a date to do holiday type things, have a party, exchange gifts, have a nice meal, it doesnt exactly have to be CHRISTMAS or anything like that persa, just do your own thing. every family has different traditions. you guys should be treated just like everyone else, and thats quite vulgar if someone tells you that you cant do what you want for the holidays! do whatever feels right in your heart, and you simply cant go wrong!

have a beautiful holiday season, no matter what!
love much,
Molly

I am a Christian......and I say CELEBRATE! Who says non believers can't celebrate Christmas? But I would wonder if they might just believe just a little?
Christmas is the time we celebrate when God came near, Immanuel, which means, God with us. As a Christian, I would want nothing more than to share that good news with non-believers.
I hope you have an AWESOME CHRISTMAS this year!

Here's what I want to know. Why do all the non believers think the believers should suffer because they don't want to believe in God. Believe what you want but stop trying to ruin I for the rest of us. If we want to celebrate Christmas and say Merry Christmas why shouldn't we be allowed. Why shouldn't our children be allowed to pledge to the Flag just because a small pecentage of people don't believe. There are more believers than there are non believers and I am sick of this stupid world trying to force the non believers way of life on the rest of us! Why can't we just believe whatever it is we believe and leave eachother the hell alone?! I'll say Merry Christmas, and you say Happy Holidays and leave it at that. Let my kid Pledge to the flag while your sits it out. What's the big deal? Anyway, I'm done. Moving on.

It isn't to say that nonChristians shouldn't celebrate Christmas, it's just hypicritical. You don't believe in God so why would you want to celebrate a holiday honoring the birth of His Son. Same with Easter- Jesus dies on the Cross and arises. It's day honoring Christ why would you want to celebrate it. And you've gone way to far when you start feeling sorry for yourselves cause you aren't 'allowed' to celebrate. It's the nonchristians who have decided to take Christ out of Christmas so you can feel comfortable!!!!! Christmas- Christs birth! Take the day off and enjoy but let us enjoy what the day really stands for!!!!

Everyone (including non-christians) will always be encouraged to spend freely for Christmas by the Advertising Council.
