Grew up in New Hampshire. All 3 States are beautiful It gets cold. How cold? LOL, 0 to -10. But then again 10 degree's to 20 degree's is probably the average in the worst part of the winter.
If it's towns your looking for. ( Not City's) Try Loudon, Conway, Wolfborro, . Vermont check out Essex Junction, Stow, that area. Head north on 89. Suncook or Allentown are 2 others in N.H. that are nice. Or if your looking to be closer to the beach's check out Rye or North Hampton. Good Luck. It's all God's country up there. You can't loose.

I live in south-central Maine. All the towns are great. It depends on what you want. Do you like theater, urban living, the ocean, the woods on a lake, the mountains? You can choose. Where I llive it stays around 30 degrees most of the winter, with several days dipping below zero. At night in the winter it usually drops to around 20. In summer it stays around 75 with a few days getting close to 100. It is quite humid in the summer.

Burlington VT is soooo fun! There's 3 colleges there so there's so much do so as far as arts, dining, shopping, etc., & prices are decent, too.
North Conway, NH is beautiful in the winter, but it gets freezing!! You're right next to Mt. Washington. I highly recommend checking it out.
As far as Maine goes, any town is awesome. Check out Bar Harbor. It's surrounded by water & Acadia Nat'l. Park. Best lobstah, too! Have a great trip :)

i don't know the White Mountains well, but I can tell you Montpelier and St. Johnsbury, in northern VT, are great towns. If a small city that feels like a colelge town is your speed, there's Burlington.
All of these are close to the Green Mts; Burlington is quite accessible to the Adirondacks of NY, too.

No, but I hear the Clam Chowder is excellent.
Do a search for New England, New Hampshire or Maine... you can find all your answers in minutes.
Here's a statistics site http://www.nass.usda.gov/Statistics_by_State/New_England/index.asp
and, from that same site, here's a PDF with Ag Temperatures in October...http://www.nass.usda.gov/Publications/State_Crop_Progress_and_Condition/current/current_eng.pdf
See how easy that is...
Good Luck.
