I work for BOC Edwards, now part of the Linde Group, the largest supplier of Gasses in the world. Big, 10 of thousands of employees in thousands of locations, and well over half of the countries of the world. I like it because the job is right up my alley, not the size of the company.

Big company pluses
Pay, Vacation time, holidays, vast resources, know structure, benefits, transfers, personal association with something world wide. If you make a mistake it's not even measurable in terms of dollars compared to the vastness of the company (I'm not talking CEO stuff, just regular worker, middle management or lower)

Minuses
just a number, decisions made with out thought to personnel, some necessary resources may be in another country and difficult to deal with. Lots of red tape.

I used to work for a very small company 6 employees.
very few benefits and lower pay. However recognition was instant and what i did really affected the company. So If i made a mistake (not on purpose) the personal responsibility and guilt i felt were horrible. However some things I did made huge real differences and the rewards were very immediate.
