Stem cell research...it conjures up images of cloning babies doesn't it? Stem cells are so important in so many facets of research for so many diseases. If you had that disease that would cloud your opinion of it, wouldn't it? Personally, I approve any research on any cells, no matter what the source as long as it is not taken from a live human, conscious body without consent ( there's an opening for a million discussions right there!). The moral issue becomes moral when individual humans have to make choices for other conscious human beings. No one is going to create human beings to harvest cells, organs, etc. That isn't going to happen, ever, in mainstream society. The world has a social consciousness that will never allow that. Look how divided we are about abortion for instance....

Firstly, I think you should be more specific. What kind of stem cell research are you referencing? There are different kinds. Of all the ones I've heard of (adult, umbilical cord, embryonic), I'm ok with umbilical cord blood, and adult stem cells being used to possibly prevent or cure disease, but not embryonic on any level. Human life must not be tampered with in such a manner as to ascribe more value to one form over another. To destroy embryos in order to harness "possible" cures is inhumane and very dangerous to any society that would allow such procedures.

MY SON HAS HAD DIABETES SINCE HE WAS 16 MONTHS OLD. HE IS NOW 12. I WILL PROBABLY OUTLIVE HIM BECAUSE THE LONGER U HAVE THIS CONDITION THE MORE COMPLICATIONS U WILL HAVE WITH THE DIABETES IN THE FUTURE. HE IS ONLY 12 AND HAS HAD THIS FOR 11 AND A HALF YEARS. STEM CELL RESEARCH CAN CURE HIM AND PEOPLE LIKE HIM. SUCH AS HIS FATHER WHO HAS HAD THE CONDITION FOR ONLY 2 YEARS.

Well stem cell research is necessary and very helpful but as most people are afraid of what they don't know, they are opposed to it. If we as americans weren't so ignorant we would find a cure for Parkinsons and alzheimers, paralysis and so on... but alas we are a bunch of ignorants who think we know it all

IF it makes a lot of money, NO ONE will stop it.
IF it proves to be difficult and does NOT make a lot of money, it will die out on it's own.
What you are reading is hype from the newspapers.

Personally it makes me wonder how far we should go with science. I'm not taking the Christian approach of, "god made it, so we shouldn't touch it". But I really have to wonder how far was science made to go? I'm on the fence with this matter.
